MX record problems with GoDaddy DNS

| I just transfered over to GoDaddy as my Domain registrar. I do not host with them but use there "total" DNS service. I have several domains and all of them are getting a large about of emails returned and they state the reason is that no MX record found for my domain.
I went to DNS stuff to check it out and in fact it states the same thing. The MX reacond failed.
Try Lamps-Lighting . com at dnsstuff and you will see it fails but I do have a MX record at go daddy but I guess it is setup wrong. I asked goDaddy for help but they said since it is a custom configuration that they are not allowed to offer support.
Does anyone know if a way to solve this. In the GoDaddy "total DNS control" I have a MX record entry that has
Priority = 10
Host = Lamps-Lighting.com
Goes to = mail.Lamps-Lighting.com
I have a A record with mail.Lamps-Lighting.com pointing to my IP address.
Any thoughts?

mail in A iphere
IN MX mail.Lamps-Lighting.com

I was looking to your definitions, and pointing a MX record to a CNAME is not within the standard. Maybe the interface you are using doesn't point that, but silently dropping the record. Try:
Priority = 10
Host = lamps-lighting.com
Goes to = lamps-lighting.com

I would update their support again and ask to speak to someone else as that answer is quite pathetic.
Just inform them that you want to set the MX record for you. I have checked and you do not have any set
As you already have the mail A record setup to 209.210.238.142 I would suggest you simply ask godaddy to set the MX record to mail.lamps-lighting.com with a priority of 0.

| I have tried most of the suggestions but no changes. How long would it take to become active if I made a change. DO I need to wait a full 24 hours for propergation?

| The changes in MX records are inmediate, but this depends on how your DNS provider make the updates. Some make it realtime, others every 15 minutes or so and another group has times defined for the updates (12:00 AM-PM).
Something reasonable would be to make a change, wait for 2 hours and try to see if its changed.

| Some extra information for people who host their email externally.
When adding an MX record for your domain for an externally hosted email server you need to apply these settings
Priority: Choose any priority you want
Host: Place the @ symbol for the host (regardless of whether the email server is hosted at that ip address or not, it must be the same as the default A Record)
GoToAddress: The domain or subdomain of your email server e.g. mail.externalmailserver.com
Then you need to wait up to 1 hr for the changes to take effect on the Godaddy servers. While changes on the DNS are immediate it takes time to be updated on Godaddy's DNS servers once you have made the change via their administration panel.

| That sounds odd, is that the terminology they really use in their control panel?
The only way it made sense was to read the whole thing and realise that there was a "GoToAddress" involved.
That "host" thing must be a hangover from previous tradition where every "host" potentially had a MTA available.
So, it's semi-legit, but potentially very confusing to some users.

| Yes and it is very odd, which is why it had me confused and I have setup many DNS servers. I literally just had to play around with settings until something worked.
And Godaddy's explaination of the fields is quite light.

| I'm really, really sorry for bringing this up again, but I wanted to thank adam1 with all my heart!
GoDaddy and their confusing naming. If I had not set up the Host as @ on the MX Record, I would have never, ever made it!
