EZPZ Hosting down

Posted by dave_j, 11-24-2009, 07:47 PM
EZPZ Hosting seems to be down. Their own website at is unreachable and my site on the shared hosting is also down. Been with them nearly a month and this is the first outage I have experienced so far. Hope it is resolved soon.

Would this maybe be the reason? http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=906078 I wouldn't worry to much, as Dan is a good guy he'll take care of you!

Possibly, although in that thread client servers were unaffected and they do seem to be affected this time. Dan does seem to be a good guy, I am sure it will be sorted soon.

Hi Dave, This seems to be a network issue which is now being worked on and we hope to have everything back online as quickly as we can. Feel free to PM me your domain name and I'll make sure you're compensated for the downtime. Dan

Hi Dan, Don't worry about compensation. These things happen from time to time and are unavoidable. I am reassured to know that you are aware of the issue and are looking into it. Cheers, Dave

Dan is a great guy. Seems like UK servers were only down during this issue.

Have to agree here. Knowing Dan, he'll do everything in his power to do what he can to sort this (and some more!) Any more updates to this Dan? Seems a big outage...

Hi Mike, Techs are currently onsite working on the problem, I'll post further updates as and when I get them. We usually post updates to our status blog but I understand some people are having problems accessing that too (which will be investigated), therefore I'll be sending out mass emails to all UK clients with updates. Dan

We have heard that the loss of service is due to a catastrophic failure of the UPS system which has resulted in the fire alarm being set off. Data Centre engineers are already onsite doing what they can until the UPS engineers arrive to take over.

That's incredible, sorry to hear that Dan - hopefully they'll have everything back online quickly.

Man talk about some of the random stuff that can happen these kinds of random events are bound to happen with any host though, Glad to see your host keeps you updated. I fill bad for the people on this forum that have downtime for weeks with no status updates from there host. Great Job Dan

Thanks for the comments guys, we're doing our best at keeping everyone updated. Distribution from one of the N+1 UPS units onto the common building distribution has burnt out (suspected manufacturing fault) and has shorted itself out on the distro causing the remaining UPS to short also. This is currently being removed and replaced. The Distro tracks have been cleared of debris from the unit that fried itself, thus removing the short. The remaining units are now being reconnected and we hope to restore power very shortly.

UPS units powered back on. Currently testing before returning load.

All servers are now online. cPanel3 is currently performing a disk check so may be under higher load than normal.

Glad to see that everything is back to normal this morning. Thanks for keeping us informed Dan and keep up the great work. Dave

Seems to be down again. I can't access EZPZ's site, my WHM or the sites within it. I see RackSRV had some issues today. Are they related?

Posted by Dan_EZPZ, 12-09-2009, 08:53 AM
Hi Mike, We are currently experiencing issues within our Kent datacenter which has caused servers to go offline. It's currently being worked on and we're re-evaluating our position within KSP due to the recent issues.

Posted by xloop, 12-09-2009, 09:16 AM
Hi Dan, Any idea how long it will take? I cant even report the issue with your websites. Thanks

Posted by Dan_EZPZ, 12-09-2009, 09:18 AM
We have very little information at the moment ( http://status.racksrv.com/ ) so it's hard to give a timeframe. Our website should be up and running fine as it is hosted offsite. Feel free to email support@ezpzhosting.co.uk if you have any questions. Dan

Ok, thanks for the reply. It is a shame that, what started as a great looking service, is now, in my opinion, not reliable enough for business sites (at least not for me anyway). It is just the reliability side that I worry about, and unfortunately has meant that now this reseller account can only be used for testing and demo sites, not live sites. Perhaps I've just got lucky with the other reseller accounts I have (EZPZ is one of three). I can only say that, so far, I have encountered about 3 x as many reliability issues with EZPZ as the other two put together. I don't wish to discourage people looking for cheap hosting / reseller accounts as I think what you offer is still probably good value for money if reliability is not a major concern. But the marketing did come across as being something else. Still, it is also my fault in the end as, in hosting, you really do get what you pay for. And I should have expected this. Still, when it comes to clients business sites, I don't think even being cheaper can make up for those things as there is too much to lose.

Hi Mike, Due to these recent problems we will be transferring servers to another location very soon. We'll bring new hardware online shortly to migrate everyone across so there won't be any downtime rather than unplugging servers and transporting them. We do our best to provide a reliable, stable, secure service and Kent isn't proving as good as it once was. It seems todays problems are due to the same power failure as last time, which I was assured was a one in a million event. Once this current issue is resolved and we have more information on future plans we will notify all clients. Dan

Hi Mike, I disagree with you re EZPZ. You do usually get what you pay for but Dan has been nothing but helpful. Ive been with them about a year and there have been very little issues. I can understand your frustration as I feel the same when I get calls from clients. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. Thanks

I agree with xloop here, I have had hosting with EZPZ for a year or so now, and it has only been recently that there have been problems. Before these current problems the hosting and quality of service have been exemplary compared to any other service at any price. I can understand however that if you have a mission critical website, the downtime could be quite an issue to you, and I'm not sure if there is a hosting solution (or a resellers package) that offers guaranteed 100% uptime. Mike.

There will always be downtime on servers. Nobody can guarantee 100% uptime.
