I run an ASP.Net / Windows 2008 R2 / VPS site. There seems to be a lot of Windows services running that consume resources. I want to streamline my CPU usage. Is there a way to know which services can be disabled and which are essential?

It depends on the services you are planning to use. For example 1. Db engines other than you are using in your scripts 2. dns could be on another server 3. mails could be hosted elsewhere. Hence, the services to be disabled depends solely on your requirements. This could help you http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com...etter-security

Try to sort the process according to the CPU usage from Task Manager and check whether they are useful for the applications you are running. You can identify the process running there with a simple search in the Google with the process name. Do not forget to configure the firewall as well to have a secure system.
