Some years ago, i host individual sites, and three years ago i know the reseller hosts. Today i sign for my first VPS, and today i close some reseller accounts for personal reasons. Business do for me around a monthly 1000 USD without much hassle, and 2000 with much hassle =) , not bad for the country i lived.
I have now one cpanel vps in powervps, one helm in hoststock, one hsphere in jodohost, one plesk in hostnexus, and around 7 cpanel in different providers, mainly bright-byte, resellernexus and reseller zoom.
With three years in the market, i understand many of our customers are lazy, and many of our host providers are lazy too. The sucess of our hosting is based in if we choose lazy host providers or not.
I have good luck with many providers, bad luck with two, and the other was standard. I want say what is important for me as a Reseller, and where i get it.
I am in Mexico, not a good place for internet business. I have th 95% of my customers for word to mouth publicity, and the other 5% offering to guys in problems who ask for help in other forums , no webhosting related. Only 2 customers pay via paypal, the rest for bank or check.
The main advise i can say is, always have at least two resellers, and have backups. Not be lazy.
Second advise, know something of the different Control Panels, some are better suited for specific tasks.
As a customer i go to name many companies, i am not related with them, but some of they know me as the ip address class C guy ( lol ).
About the control Panels, i have in some moment of my business a year with each control panel as reseller, is my point of view only.
1 ) Cpanel :
Pros: Easy Backups, Fantastico, RVSkin ( many customers got crazy for fancy colors )
Cons: Too much options some times. Many hosts dont know what are doing.
Comments: For me , is the default choice when i need forums ( IPB 1.2 was free until some days ago ), and the spam assassin works well. I always say i dont support PHPBB and i the customer install, he need to update.
Hosts to check:
bright-byte.com (5/5) The first and best reseller i get, and the more stable yet. In three years they do some incredible things for me when my other resellers fails. Yesterday they do for me a custom plan too. Have not RVSkin, less space than the normal, but EXCELLENT quality. They are in Cyberwurx in global compass, but i need cancel one cyberwurx reseller i buy for the bad services.Maybe i can cancel others, but not this ( i dont think they change me to other server soon, this server was excellent always )ResellerNexus.com (4.5/5) Near to excellent, former Hostnexus , they offer sitestudio in cpanel. Good responses, good techs, good karma. They dont allow parked domains, but yes allow addons. They dont have VPS options, please dont use the RVSTUDIO option =)ResellerZoom.com (4/5) I have with them a small reseller for special customers who really buy more space than they use. Have 10 customers here and 100 USD profit monthly =) Can have sitestudio for 1.5 monthly site.Gate2vn (45/5) Hung is a tratable guy and all the staff know his job.. but sometimes they forgot we dont understand foreign languages and receive trash mails. They offer too DirectAdmin and Helm.hoststock.com (3/5) They are good and small. Sometimes are outgages, but good in general for know the options.
Hosts to NO check: SomeDay I have bad experience with UnitedHosting dot net the site dessapear with ten of my sites, but one whole year was good. Gazzin Ultra Fast support tickets, but the tech guys are overhelmed and the sales persons say all is possible.
2 ) Hsphere :
Pros: Easy Integrate all in one package. Good for parking domains, or without spamfilter. Includes sitestudio. If you use different Class C can be excellent.
Cons: Sitestudio have some problems when you change a site between shared or dedicated ip, you dont edit filters to all domain, and the learning curve is more extended.
Comments: Really i only try jodohost and no reason to change. Hsphere Have problems, but fix specific needs i have.
Hosts to check: Jodohost.com
3 ) Helm :
Pros: Easy domain redirection, easy budget software. Strong Ftp things.
Cons: Normally the helms have problem with backups, and webmails.
Comments: I have one tiny reseller because one of my customers need a strange ftp options , and i only find the options in helm. I have problems with .htaccess using simple redirect temps.
Hosts to check:
hoststock.com (5/5) They have resellers with overselling at low costs, but good stability. They have not backups or webmail, but good for the price.Gate2vn (4/5) They are PATIENT, with CAPS, and good resources. They made me understand the string of helm. Gazzin have helms plans but i not try them.
Hosts to NO check:
Reyox. In one months they dont send the password, and have a story of overselling
4 ) Plesk :
Pros: Easy for your grand mother, powerful and with preinstalled scripts.
Cons: Many providers are SLOOOOOW or have problems, not intuitive backups.
Comments: My first impression with reseller was here, but i cancel this month, for now i dont support more.
Hosts to check:
HostNexus Someguys have problems, but i dont. I notice last months the control panel is more slow, and is easy for my customers.
Hosts to NO check:
ServerUnited.com and 20 similar domains. They was good until Go down for 15 days. I move some customers to cpanel and lost others.Servercube.com They suspend by default the sites the end of billing cycle. Two times of REACTIVE one for one, was too much.
5 ) Direct Admin :
Pros: UltraEasy, UltraSpeed, Good Look, stable, easy backups.
Cons: Ultra Unknow.
Comments: By Heart my heart is in it. In some months i buy a VPS with that, i cancel 15 days ago my last reseller for simplify needs ( 16 resellers at the time was too much )
Hosts to check:
0 I suggest try a powervps reseller. Is well known and not expensive. I dont try with them yet, but i go to get a DA VPS soon.1 Gate2vn (5/5) They know the software and always was good in solution all problems.2 realhosts (4/5) They are in england and Peter is a nice guy. I left him one year ago for problem with my customers payments, and no profit at the moment
5 ) Ensim :
Pros: Invision 2.1 included Last time i see it, good scripts.
Cons: I no see much more ensim resellers now, for me was the more confused control panel, and for my customers too. We never can set up here a .com.ar domain...
Comments: Maybe i retry soon for the 2.1 invision =)
Hosts to check: NEWISTA (3/5) The limits they have are software related. Try but i dont put important eggs in that basket.
