Fat Network bringing me down

Posted by BewareOfButtlice, 12-27-2006, 03:32 AM
I have their ebay'ed unmetared hosting for 24.95 a month and i have been COMPLETELY satisfied until now... Recently, we had a virus or something on our server box which renames all the .htaccess files and creates its own with all this crap in it to redirect direct links to images and some URL's to a System Doctor 2006 webpage. I informed them about it over 6 times now and they always reply back with, "change your WHM/Cpanel passwords, update all forums installed, and change all passwords to all the email accounts." and "we ran a virus scan and found nothing." they are literally REFUSING to believe me that it is a virus even though you have to put "RewriteEngine Off" in my .htaccess in order for everything to work normally. That issue still remains unfixed because they refuse to do anything about it. Now, all of a sudden the servers are going down and we have almost a 68% uptime. I am not paying for a kitchen box, i am paying for professionals to run the server and keep it up so i don't loose clients and they don't loose me... Also, the servers some days refuse to work or are VERY slow to the point that you are grinding your teeth trying to get into cpanel or even view a page. The list goes on, with even more issues arising EVERY OTHER DAY... There is always a new problem on the box, like they will redo everything without warning and clients will loose data that they just put on their hosting and im the one that gets all the heat about it. They don't even give us any email or phone call warnings of updates/maintenance going on. I have made the decision to switch providers because of all this and leave them with a complaint with the BBB requesting compensation for the past few months. I give them a half start out of five. Thats only because they at least try and make you think they are doing something but really are just saying that they did something, in technical words, to make the average joe feel like they fit comfortably in their palms.

You made the mistake of going with an "unlimited" host. There is no such thing as unlimited hard drives and bandwidth. I'd recommend you get your backups and get out. For a reseller, I've used hostdime.com before. They should help you out. Also JaguarPC is great. They may even move your accounts for free. You'll be a lot happier. Another thing, the golden rule of thumb... never buy hosting off ebay. Best of luck to you.

i like the look of jaguarPC, they have good plans that let you go at your own pace and have a lot of space at the same time. Looks to be very reliable from the AUP/TOS/SLA/PP i have skimmed through. I will most likely be giving them a shot! Thanks a bunch michaely!!!

No problem. Their support has yet to be matched by another host. I used them starting out, answered all my questions within literally minutes. Best of luck to you.

That is ethically wrong -- You shouldn't request compensation for the past few month -- You said that they provided you great service until now, so that would be ethically wrong. However, requesting a refund for this month would be okay. Mini

Actually $24.95 for unmetered hosting isn't paying for professional service and it is paying for the kitchen box. Fact is, you've bought into a lie. Your expecting the world for nothing. Thats like me going into McDonalds and expecting a 5 course meal for a buck. Price to diskspace/bandwidth ratio is the last factor you should look at. You should look for professional quality service if you want it. Most people look at price first, the saying you get what you pay for is no myth. But your not to blame. Thing is, this happens very frequently, as you can see from other posts on this site. A lot of people often think, oh what I am saying can't be true (mind you them same people usually end up signing up with us down the road) but it's like robing banks. Ya might get away with it for a while but eventually it'll catch up to ya. Last edited by jmweb; 12-27-2006 at 09:11 PM.

I wish I could've read that a few months ago I have to agree, don't buy hosting off ebay, I have tried several times (gez, I was pretty persisstent to try several times with different services of course) I have tried Fat Network too, except I cancelled it within a few days since I had the same problem (not the virus thing) but the problem of having a pain trying to access WHM as it takes forever to load. Good luck on finding new service

Live and Learn. I had a friend who learnt the hard way.

I know Thanks for advice btw. I just hate to learn through hard way. Oh well, it is life. Not my first time learning something through hardways anyway

I hope that you have learned to stay far away from Ebay hosters. Also you may want to re-think the unlimited deals as someone stated earlier in this thread. Just not possible to offer this and provide decent service to the customer. You would have better luck just googling "Web Hosting providers" and see what you come up with, so simply searching here on WHT. Sorry you had a bad experience and I do hope the next time around, the ball is your favor. Good luck!

Stay away from ebay hosters and any host who posts too good to be true offers and doesn't even have a website
