HostGator - 43 Months

Posted by jlgreer1, 03-22-2007, 09:27 PM
I reluctantly closed out my reseller account with HostGator this evening. I have been with them for 43 months. The services and support were excellent during that time. They treated me most fairly. Whenever they increased the resource on packages for new customers, they did the same for the existing customers without charge. During the entire time, they never increased the fee even though the available resources at least doubled. It is also one of the few large companies where the buck stops with the owner. If something is not resolved correctly, Gator Brent will look at the problem and come to a fair resolution. I purchased a self-managed dedicated server or I would still be with them. As the need arises, I hope to do business with them again. Jeff

Nice review, thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of us! It's great to see long-time user post a review. Brent is a great guy and always goes out of his way to help his customers. They offer dedicated servers also, why didn't you stick with them if you were so happy? Anyways best of luck with your new provider.

Good to hear a long term review, Hostgator has a very good rep and these types of reviews back that up. I am also interested in knowing if you got a dedicated server with them and if not why?

You must be one of their first customers then. I sure is something special read feedback from you then! He mentioned getting an unmanaged server. HG's are managed and this is reflected in the price.

They use to offer the option to remove management + control panel and subtract $50 off the price, I see they don't anymore.

I would still be with HG if they offered self-managed dedicated servers. I expect to go with co-location later this year, somewhere in Houston, Dallas, or Jacksonville. I was an early customer. I was looking a The Planet for a dedicated server and read an article about a new startup company with excellent service. It was HostGator. Jeff Last edited by jlgreer1; 03-23-2007 at 02:06 PM.

That is quite a long time, well done. Thanks for the info and hope your new location serves well.

What were their servers like? Any downtimes? Did they present good performance? I was thinking about going with them, but decided with IVHOSTING.COM (bad choice by the way), and canceled with them and am considering going to Host Gator.

Hi all, I can't agree with jlgreer1, I have been with HostGator for over 18 months, but had a problem lately. So I canceled I don't like when I'm billed for an issue that was already solved few weeks ago and I got confirmation that everything is fine. They even suspended all my accounts and I had 2+ days of downtime, it took hours for them to respond my ticket. P.S. Now looking for a new hoster...

Nice review there, especially its a review of a person with over 43 months of experience with them.

What Alex is referring to is when we suspended 4,000 accounts for non payment. Many of them were 6 months or more past due. Modernbill doesn't work the way it should for us because it's to big so we had to do a manual suspend which we finally got around to doing.

Why am I not surprised by this comment?

Posted by soflo, 03-28-2007, 09:06 PM
What do you mean by that?

I had NO DUES in the end of March and you have suspended all my accounts with root lock So when you unsuspended my reseller account I was still unable to unsuspend my resold accounts myself So what 'non payment' are you talking about? I had a very long conversation with your staff but all I got was an invoice "$10 late payment fee"

Only that I am not surprised to read such statement. Many peoples will argue that Modernbill is the best billing software ever and others will reply that it is not even able to manage simple tasks without bugs. Personnally, I feel betrayed by this wanna-be product even if we were long-time customer. Hopefully for Moderngigabyte, they can continue to make promises they won't held, sell it as the "best billing software ever" without remorses and hide them behind their abusive EULA.

When he said "big" I think he was referring to the MB database and not the actual package. Considering how big HG is and the number of clients they have, I've wondered myself how MB would be able to manage all those clients without crashing. But it's (MB) is still doing a great job!
