Windows Reseller - New to me

Posted by VisualZ, 03-24-2007, 05:24 AM
Hi All, Due to new project I need to get a Windows reseller account (or should I get VPS)? I am familiar with Linux based reseller, vps, dedicated etc.. but windows is very new to me. So.. what do you all think of private label hosting with Windows? Does Windows do a good job in hiding my supplier details? How about control panel wise? Helm? Or is there any other better option? Oh, does ASP.NET should be supported by default? Thanks for all the reply Cheers, VisualZ

Linux or Windows, it's not hiding your supplier information, if they dont do. control panel: Plesk, Helm, H-Sphere are popular ones yes, I believe any Windows host will support for .NET by default. v1.1 and v2 can run on the same server without trouble.

Hi I recommend not getting a VPS if your new to windows, as Windows is not as simple as linux to configure and lock down. ASP.net v1 will be default on windows 2003, .net 2 and .net 3 the host will probably offer as they are free to install from windows update.

Thanks for reply guys, I am currently considering a Plesk + Reseller windows hosting now. Windows always more expensive than Linux, so it seems.

Have you found a decent host yet?

Well.. I am currenly considering 1 company, but I am still looking for better options.

Well this is expected ie license prices: (examples) Linux = free Windows = $20 USD Month (approx) Mail servers are included with ie CPanel on linux on windows you have to buy mail servers ie mailenable/smartermail so windows is expensive to run so it will not be cheap like linux were you can get everything for free.

The more I read WHT the more choices I have. Now I am thinking to go to clustering hahaha.

well my recommendation is to get reseller first .. and use Plesk .. its the best CP with windows .. and about clusterd solution .. its a good one .. but you will get Hsphere .. which is good too .. and the cost is bit high

Plesk is expensive. If you want to have windows based clusters you have to be millionaire to use plesk. When it comes to windows control panels dnp is my choice. I used plesk for over 4 years.

Does anyone actually use Plesk for windows ? i hear far to many problems with it, I personally aint used it myself but would be good to hear from someone who does use it.

I have a Windows reseller account using PLESK and I've had no more problems with it than I have anything else (Linux, Solaris, etc. ..... Cpanel, HELM, etc). Picking the right host is more important than the system. Anybody can botch a perfectly good system.
