e-mail question

Posted by Silverbird, 08-22-2012, 01:55 AM
Running an e-mail report inquiry in whm I find a large number of email that seem to be forwarded to the same address but they all say host lookup did not complete and are all rejected. Is my server just being used as a relay? thanks

It is hard to say if it is due to open relay. Have you set up proper rDNS record for your server? It may also email spoofing where sender spoofs email addresses. If possible, please provide exact bounce back error message.

check if server is compromised It could be emails are sent to non existing addresses

Thanks for your response, the receiving domain is registered at go daddy but all incoming are random. If it was spam wouldn't the recieve address be different?

Hi, I would rather recommend you to scan your server with claimAV option or any other, It seems your accounts has been used as a victim for phishing. It seems your server is containing some phishing contents.

First you need to find out exact username from where emails are being sent out. I would recommend to set SPF record, Domain Keys and also disable default email address.
