Which do you think is better?
Intel E3-1270v2 Quad Core (8 HT cores) @ 3.5Ghz Per CoreIntel E5-2620 12 Core (24 HT Cores) @ 2.5Ghz Per Core
Assume both have 32gb of RAM and 4x 450GB SAS 15K RPM drives in hardware RAID10.
(This is for a general shared hosting server.)
Operating system will be CentOS 6.x with cpanel.

I'm gonna go with the E5-2620, newer processor, and the performance should be better for hosting.

If you are speaking of a Dual e5-2620 since you mention 24HT cores when a single proc has 12, than Number 2 would be better.
If you are talking about a single e5-2620, the 1270v2 should perform slightly better if not the same. But with the e5-2620, you could add a second at any time.
e5 all the way.
The 1270v2 was released quarter 2 of this year while the 2620 was released quarter 1.

Haha, my bad, I saw e3 vs. e5 and thought older proc. Brain fart on my part.
