PLEASE HELP WITH GUIDE TO STARTING A RESELLER HOSTING AND DOMAIN

Posted by oludallas, 11-18-2007, 11:44 AM
I have chat with hostgator and hostnine. I think i will go for hostgator. Their reseller acct now comes with sitestudio for free. I am looking to start with 24gb disk space and 250bandwidth for $24.95. How many clients will that take? The site studio does not come with e-shop. How does Fantastico works? They said instant guestbook, portals and shopping cart. How will my client connect the shopping cart to their website with sitestudio? How will i connect the domain reseller to my website? Any info on how that works. Thanks

Instead of asking all of us to give you the answers, why not search for them and do the research yourself? If your looking for quick and easy money, your looking in the wrong direction.

Wrong business indeed Maybe seek out a job as tech support trainee, get some experience from some experts, wait a few years THEN start your hosting company

Yes oludallas, I think time has not yet come to start hosting business for you. This is what appears from your questions.

Hardly anyone will coz there are lot of other hosts who offer much cheaper plans with more resources. You need to learn abt the hosting industry, and since you speciafiacally asked for a web hosting guide to learn abt the hosting industry, check out http://www.resellerguide.com/ or www.thewhir.com

Piece of advice if you are getting a reseller hosting in order to resell them . 1) Be Truthful to your clients 2) Always reply support tickets ASAP 3) Do not overcharge 4) Customer Trust is very important 5) Start selling your webhost to people you know e.g friends and family just to get even 6) Professional website design is a must 7) Luck is what you need. 1)Use the search function on WHT, ask questions -- a LOT! THEN 2)I would suggest start small, get a reseller account. Try to get a professional design for your website if possible. I have been on WHT a lot and have made numerous , numerous posts and finally decided i knew enough to start on my own.

I agree with everyone else, IMHO you're in over your head. First red-flag is that you want to start a business and it doesn't look like you have done your research. Lets take Hostgator (since you've selected them). Think of it this way "how will you compete with Hostgator?". I mean anyone looking for hosting is more likely to hear about Hostgator then your brand new hosting company. So how are you going to compete? If you go just by the numbers then you can't. You have to find your niche and bring more to the table then just raw bandwidth/diskspace/etc... Make yourself attractive to your potential customers. Which brings me back to the point about research. Coming to these forums and asking all these questions show that you have not done your research. I suggest you spend some time in the Running a Host forum http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6, search for tutorials online that can give you some initial information (I found http://www.resellerguide.com/ with a simple google search). I know a friend that wanted to "dip his toe" into the web hosting biz and he just got himself a reseller account and gave free hosting to his friends and family. Eventually he got a handful of paying customers. This allowed him to go threw the paces and get a feel for what it took to be a reseller.
