Cpanel WHM Reseller recommendations again

Posted by ex19, 11-06-2007, 01:16 AM
I'm looking to go over tonight since my current host had some kind of a meltdown today. Can anyone compare totalchoicehosting to another host and give me a recommendation. I need a reliable, 99.9 uptime, cpanel, whm reseller account, although in reality I only have a small number of accounts on it. I need something that can be fully managed with support. I've tested h9, hostgater, ipower, and incognito and on each of those I've had issues. Thanks for your help.

Hello, for cpanel, you may want to look at providers like downtownhost, rochen, bluefur, digitallyjustified, etc... if you are looking for better reliability, you will probably need to pay more then you are currently paying.

The search and or offers section might be your best bet . They usually have some good offers in that section. good luck with your search

What sort of space and bandwidth requirements are you looking at? The definition of small sites seems to be different from person to person. Also you say fully managed with support. Are you talking about end user support where the reseller provider provides support for your customers. Or are you simply saying they actually help you with problems (pretty much standard to have support).

What kind of issues did you have? Is it related to "fully managed" requirement? Most hosts offer 99.9% uptime, cpanel, whm reseller

no, the issue is stupid. they said I had a php exploit and rather than disable that file they pulled the entire site down and I can't get parts of it back up after hours. very stupid. other than that they've been great. I really only need 60GB file, and less than .5GB bandwidth. I was hoping to get good support, including support for customers that need help. I was thinking of getting a host with affiliate and reseller, because I only really need reseller to host the 20 domains that I own. Also because I don't like waiting for setup time when I buy a new domain. I took a look at the BlueFur and Downtown recommendations above and they look good. Anyone else use either of those. They also both have phone numbers, I like that too. Thanks for all your help.

60gb disk and half a gig of bandwidth? Also, if they say you have a php exploit in your script, then its not a stupid issue. They took your site down to protect their servers. Nobody will host someone with a massive php exploit (from the way it sounds, since you've tried many hosts already) that could compremise their server.

Seems weird indeed. Probably a typo in either of them. I can't really fault them there given that so many hosts suspend the site rather than temper with certain files. The reason probably is cost to do a thorough investigation and the need to act quickly. Taking down a file might cripple or render the application useless anyway. They use to be known as Monsterhosting. Just so you can do a better research and judge what they're like.

Most hosts offer that as it seems to be a defacto standard these days. However finding one that will honour the guarantee can be the tricky part.. Some will also have varying crediting policies and you will receive a particular amount of credit at different threshold levels, so it will be best to consult the TOS of each host first regarding the crediting schedule.

Did you ask them more details about that? Probably one of your script or software might be an old version and might have got exploited. In such a situation the only option any host will do is suspending that site. Are you running any third party softwares in your account? something like an old version of phpbb or nuke?

I'm sorry but if you are running anything with a known exploit then it's typically out of date and in most cases have multiple problems. So "disable a file" just doesn't cut it and you need to disable the account until the issue(s) are resolved. Just to be clear you said you tested a few hosts and you had issues with them, were they the same issue as with your current host? The exploit problem?

I think you need to step outside the box and see what the above members are saying about your host. It runs a little deeper then just one file. If they have been great, and evidently met all of your needs in terms of BW, HD, and uptime, I think you may want to give them another try. There are many horror stories out there with web host in that same price range with those specs. You may want to give them the credit of being what you expected despite the current issue you faced, that again, runs deeper then you think. Those are just my two cents James

ok, well let me update. The host resolved that issue 10 days ago, but they did it again early this morning during a server migration. Unfortunately since I'm not a programmer I can address them saying that my cerberus helpdesk is the issue and is setting up 644 permissions, when yesterday it was working fine and I've done nothing. I attribute it to the server since all was well and now all is not well, just like 10 days ago. Meanwhile, I've been doing testing on Site5, and that is down on mysql so I'm still looking at the alternatives. Pretty soon I can write reviews on these hosts. I've had 5. I realize that there are always issues on hosts, but on Pair for 9 years I've had none, the only issue I have there is lack of cpanel and fantastico. Makes my job easier. I don't blame them for handling the security issue, but I've not found the security issue as being a source or related to this problem. I've contacted the developer and they are willing to stand by to correct any security issue, but no one has ever identified the "issue" to be fixed.

My only bit of advice here is to do some research on these forumss about Site5. I myself would never recommend them, extremely oversold.

Yes, site5 is bery bad choice. They will block your website at no reason, and will not refund your money. Last edited by softcab; 11-17-2007 at 11:27 AM.

It's not your host job to debug and find the security issue on the script that you're using. They may identify the file/folder/script causing the problem, but not what part of the code is wrong.

This guy made two posts. Both of them are about the same great reseller. I think this is advertisement.

yep I got it about Site5. Ouch. So I'm shopping again. What a pain. The only thing site5 was good for was prior to dns being used for the private nameserver, the cerberus helpdesk worked as they have not updated their php and mysql to 5 yet.

Posted by ex19, 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM
Yes but they didn't have the courtesy to report the file that caused the problem until days later, not fair.

do you want reseller windows or linux?
