MY server blocked by hetzner
Posted by nashenas, 09-24-2012, 03:28 PM |
I have a dedicated server from hetzner .
We installed windows and create a virtual machine by Hyper-V
We added two interface with different mac address into that VPS . The VPS is getting IP by DHCP .
Datacenter blocked our server for below reason .
What's wrong ? Why do they block this server ?

It sounds like you are using IPs you were not assigned. Did those VPS using DHCP get IPs that you were assigned?

Yes. Both of IP are assigned to me as follow. They provide a separate MAC address for each IP for virtualization purposes.
188.40.64.87 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:22:FC
188.40.64.88 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:02:d2
I think default gateway of VPS is eth0. So they think I'm using 188.40.64.88 with another MAC address . Is it true ?

And they simply terminate your server? Without even giving you some notification or chance to fix the problem? Or talk to you about the problem at least...

As far as I understand the service was only suspended.

No , They just suspended the server.
But I don't know what's wrong in their report . Do you have any idea ?
The IPw which i'm using as below :
188.40.64.87 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:22:FC
188.40.64.88 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:02:d2

In any case that's not acceptable. Terminating or even suspending customers server without even sending a warning/notice is overreaction. I mean, that's probably mentioned in their ToS but anyway. Why not being nice to your customers?

Yes.that's not acceptable.
They down over 200 websites. We are heavily damaged in our business .
But I don't want to discuss about their policy . Please send your idea about their report . What's problem in my IP configuration ?

I would suggest you clarify this with them? They and you should know what IP addresses you may use. I dont see how anyone here can help.
And to be honest I dont find it unacceptable. Using addresses you are not assigned can lead to disruptions.

Here is their response :

But your question was not about unassigned IP addresses I assume.
|
Posted by nashenas, 09-28-2012, 07:38 AM |
These IPs are assign to me :
188.40.64.87 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:22:FC
188.40.64.88 with MAC: 00:50:56:00:02:d2
And I didn't use another IPs . Please see the log again in my first post.

So what was your question to them about?
And if you didnt use another, what did they complain about? Again, to clarify with them.

Maybe our VPS is spoofing MAC Address .
Please see their log :
But in my VPS :

True, but terminating the account straight away is a bit too much. It's like executing suspects without trial. There're always such things as admin's errors and false positives.

Sorry breezer, dont want to be rude, but how many more times does it need to be mentioned? The account was not closed but suspended. Reasonable in such a situation.

Any action causing downtime to your customers without warning is not reasonable. Period. It was not an emergency so would be ok to send a notice first and in case the customer ignores it login to his VPS and disable virtual interfaces. If he attempts it for the 2nd time, he deserves a suspension I agree.
