New Cyber Prevention Servers/Gateways.

Good evening all,
I'd like some assistance from you if at all possible.
Consider me somewhat of a noob, as I am somewhat in this certain regard.
Now,
A couple of friends and I are considering creating security servers against cyber attacks for the general public. EVENTUALLY it will be a paid service.
What were were thinking (IF this ever goes ahead) was any 'Joe Blow' logs into his computer and wants to access any certain site but he's worried about the ever online security threats.
Our idea was that we have a 'service' where the customer logs onto the web (via our software that we had built) via an icon instead of just clicking on Google per se'.
Via his icon from our software that he downloaded and installed from our website he would be linked to our secure servers and gateways. From there he his IP could be changed and he could go ahead onto the WWW.
The software once structured and packaged would lead to our static lines of our servers for all customers.
I'd like to know ALL of your thoughts in concerns to this. From square one.
We have funding so money wouldn't be that much of an issue but obviously we don't want to go crazy (to start).
1. Would we need a rack server or would a standalone do to start?
2. What kind of operating system and added software would we need?
3. What kind of hardware would we need?
I've been viewing this site for a couple of years as I've rented servers of my own from numerous hosts, but still, as stated, in this regard I'm somewhat new.
So, go easy.
Kindest regards,
Pete.

Looks like you're approaching your problem from the wrong perspective - I'd be more concerned about how your service would actually protect users' computers and online actions from malicious actors than what hardware it'll eventually run on. Once you've got this figured out, you'll know what kind of power you'll need.

That's one of the things I'd like insight on.
I need ALL opinions, ideas and perspectives.
I'm obviously curious about the other side as well in regards to the hardware, I mean that's a given as it will be needed, that's where the funding comes in.
I'd also like input in regards to the protection for users, in all perspectives, hardware AND software.

Well, without designing your product for you, I'd guess that you wouldn't need that high-end of hardware. It sounds like you're planning on proxying users' internet traffic, and performing some sort of filtering along the way, so my major concern would be getting high-bandwidth high-speed connections for your servers.
Depending on what your funding is like, I'd recommend starting with a VPS - it's easy to migrate to a physical machine later, and in the meantime you can pay just for what you need.

My thoughts are actually purchasing all of the hardware/network equipment, not renting. Unless, the thoughts are better to rent a dedi/s first. If I did that however they wouldn't get the full time attention without having to go through support tickets and wait, while the customer is down. So, we decided against that.
We'd like to start as we mean to go on, actually have our own servers.
I should of made that clear in the first place, my apologies.
