CSF and Plesk

Hello guys.. is it safe to install csf on a plesk 11 server? I don't want the graphical interface of csf, I'll manage it from SSH .. will this work out?? Thanks..

I don't see why not, csf is just a frontend for iptables. You may have to open a couple ports for the plesk control panel and optionally close some cpanel ports.

I use CSF on my mains site server running headless too. CSF will pretty much work with anything, but may require addition configuration for different things. So I see no reason why it won't work. Just be sure to go through the config file and change opened ports and stuff, etc. So assuming since you'll be managing through SSH that you'll have the knowledge to do follow up home work on further configurations.

WOWZERS! thanks for the quick reply guys.. another question though, I have csf installed on a cpanel server and it was configured by security professionals and it's doing an amazing job! is it ok to export the config file of the cpanel server and import it on the plesk one? I mean, is it server-specific and works depending on the server's IP and installed software or is it general and works with any server?? Thanks..

the CSF documentation is really good. Install it, look in /etc/csf and you will find everything you need to get it going. readme.txt is the full manual on how to get it all going. Certainly use the config on your CPanel server as an example, but you probably do not want to just blindly copy the config over.

I would recommend you to do manual settings instead of using your cPanel server's config file. Read the explanation before you make the changes in the settings.

I would also recommend you to not directly import CSF configuration directly from cPanel server to Plesk server. Do the settings manually on Plesk. You can refer following document for the same: http://g33kinfo.com/info/archives/4372

Man!! Thanks really, this is a great guide and it worked perfectly.. However it doesn't seem to block failed login attempts from plesk panel .. which makes it useless.. any idea how to make lfd block failed attempts on plesk panel itself?? Thanks..
