Dedicated IP for Reseller Account

Posted by RHostingMX, 01-13-2010, 01:39 AM
Hello my dear and expert friends of WHT Well I like to ask you, which is the best way to use a dedicated IP for a Reseller Hosting Account. This question is because I'm going to change from server from my actual hosting provider and maybe I'm going to change from hosting provider in the near future, so I need to setup again the IP, the NS's and the DNS's. So what is your recomendation? Should I use my dedicated IP only for my main domain reseller and for my NS1 and host all my hosting accounts under a shared IP and the same for NS2. OR Should I use my dedicated IP to host all my accounts included my main reseller account. I really appreciate all your information and support. Rodrigo Castillo ROC@S Mexico

Hi Rodrigo, A dedicated IP will only be able to be used for one account, so you wouldn't be able to host all accounts using the same dedicated IP. I would just use it for your main account so you can install an SSL for that domain. Your NS1 and NS2 nameservers are already setup for you by your host as well, and if you change hosts the IP's are going to change anyways. Regards,

The only purpose of dedicated IP I recommend you using is SSL. And SSL is the must for the reseller accounts. Your customers should send their personal data and billing information through HTTPS

You can request to have private nameservers setup for you, so you will use ns1.domain.com & ns2.domain.com using you provider's IP addresses, then you can request to have the dedicated IP just for your site. You do not need to have a nameserver for your dedicated IP.

I really appreciate all your information and support and I hope not to bother your asking for so many questions, but I have some doubt about how to setup my hosting account, so I have this information from the previous settings for my account with my actual hosting provider and I like to know what do you think about it, this is the account scheme recommended by the hosting provider manager. I really appreciate your recomendation and opinion: Thanks to all for praticipate! Have a good day everyone! ROC@S Mexico

Are these two distinct DNS server or the same server pointing two IPs? If it is the same server, why not put the dedicated IP again for the ns2 as well?

This are the IP's from my hosting provider to my NS's: NS1 (Shared IP) = 74.86.58.178 NS2 (Shared IP) = 208.43.10.128 But I have a dedicated IP and I'm using it to my NS1: NS1 (Dedicated IP) = 174.37.33.60 * instead of NS1 (Shared IP) = 74.86.58.178 from my hosting provider Is that right? Thanks in advance, ROC@S MEXICO

I think it would be a waste using your dedicated IP for your NS, it does not really matter if you use dedicated/shared ip for your NS. Use it for your Reseller Domain to use SSL since you have to use https://www.rhostingmx.com when you process orders for your customers to gain confidence when customers are buying from you.

I agree there is no need for you to use your dedicated IP for your nameservers. Just used the nameservers below and let your provider know to setup the private nameservers for you on the server and thats it. NS1.rhostingmx.com = 74.86.58.178 NS2.rhostingmx.com = 208.43.10.128

Hello,

Hello, well based on the KDisk words, I was thinking in isolate the hosting accounts or the hosting main reseller domain in one dedicated IP, thinking in the posible abuse of any user on a shared server. So in that case if the ISP or the provider block the shared IP, maybe it should be possible to me to continue working becasue my sites are using another IP, the dedicated one. Is that thought right? Thanks in advance, ROC@S MEXICO

I'd recommend that you use your dedicated IP for the website that hosts your billing panel. This will allow you to install an SSL certificate on that domain

If you used a dedicated IP as a shared ip for multiple accounts, then it wouldn't be a dedicated ip, it would be a shared ip .
