Time needed for spf records
Posted by mogsub, 09-22-2014, 05:07 AM |
Hi,
I am planning to apply some spf records for some of my domains and I would like to ask, after how much time are they applied? Are the filters applied immediately or do they need some time to resolve like dns records. Accordingly if I want to turn them off (the records) what happens?
Thanks a lot

Depends on the TTL for the DNS records.
Can be anything from 5 mins to 48 hours.
If it's a new record it's pretty much immediate but can still take upto 48 hours, changes take the full propagation time.

Normal DNS propagation time is around 24 hours
it could take some time for the remote server to cache the spf records so safely you can assume it around 24-48 hours time
based on remote dns cache refresh time

SPF records are actually a type of DNS records.
So it will take some time depending on zone TTL to propagate.
As mentioned above 24-48 hours in most cases.

Remember that if you are using a testing utility to look up your SPF record in DNS, you need to wait until its TTL (time to live) expires and the change propagates to the world before the utility will see any changes. Often it is easier to paste your SPF record into the utility instead, so that your changes will be seen immediately.
