Mail delivery problem to my server

Posted by Earthblaze, 09-22-2014, 03:20 PM
Hi all, I have set up Virtualmin to run 3 personal websites for me. I created the first domain without problem. I added an email address (enquiries@mydomain.com). I can send test emails from this address on my server but when I try to send an email to my server via GMail I get the following error. Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain mydomain.com by mx.emailconfig.com. [IP address but not my dedicated server IP or dedicated domain IP]. The error that the other server returned was: 554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied Is this something to do with SMTP authorization or spamhaus setting? I have checked both the IP addresses on spamhaus and they are not blocked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Earhtblaze

Hello, It looks like the MX records for your domain are pointing to mx.emailconfig.com. That server is rejecting email designated to your domain. Assuming email is supposed to be delivered via mx.emailconfig.com, it sounds like you need to update the configuration to allow email for you domain. If email is not supposed to be delivered through mx.emailconfig.com, then the MX records need to be updated to point to the correct server.

Hi, Is this the MX record pointing to "mx.emailconfig.com" for your domain. Check what the DNS records for mail is for your domains?

change MX record of mydomain.com to mydomain.com

Thanks for you posts. I have temporarily removed DNSSEC records then checked the zone files. A record for mail is correct. The mx record is mydomain.com. IN MX 5 mail.mydomain.com. I have gone through Virtualmin settings and cannot find anything on mx domains or mx.emailconfig.com. I definitely have not changed the default server template. Any ideas? Thanks Earthblaze

Can you put your domain into http://mxtoolbox.com/ and see if it comes up with the right MX records? The email being rejected by mx.emailconfig.com really sounds like your MX records are off.

MXtoolbox is a lifesaver in these situations.

Sorted. I initially did not use bind and set records up with domain provider. I forgot to delete them (facepalm!). It was still worthwhile as I would not have learned about MXtoolbox. Thanks everyone and apologies. Earthblaze Last edited by Earthblaze; 09-23-2014 at 12:49 PM.

I changed my domain providers records (created glue records) and everything worked fine. I had been working on my first website for the last 2 weeks via dedicated IP. Installed a SSL certificate last night and when I accessed the domain (mydomain.com rather than the IP address) I was confronted with a Google red phishing page. My site has not gone live and I am a bit baffled. I have spent the last 2 months setting up 2 centos 6.5 servers. Security wise I have - Installed CFSChanged webmin and SSH ports. Using key authentication with no password login allowed. I am the only user.I have secured and mounted /tmp with no nosuid, noexec, nodev and also applied these options to tmpfs I have deleted /var/tmp and /home/tmp and created symbolic linksInstalled Clam AVInstalled Malware DetectInstalled RK Hunter and Chkrootkit.Installed suhosinSE Linux running in enforced mode. All logs are showing normal activity. I'm baffled!

It is possible the issue is not your server, but the domain name or IP that has been tagged by Google. It would help if you could provide the IP or domain name. Also, you might want to have this moved to a new thread since it's a different issue.

Would you mind to share your website name so that we can check it from our end as well?

Hi guys, I will move this to a new thread and include domain name and IP. Thanks, Earthblaze
