Hosting Client, Not Email Client
Posted by evahost, 09-24-2014, 02:24 PM |
My client purchased their domain from GoDaddy. I'm hosting their website, but not providing email services. I edited his domain records to point his website to my server, but left his email with GoDaddy. This all seems to work. Website is ok. His email is okay.
Except for this case:
He and I cannot email each other (my email is on my server). Is there some configuration that can be done on the server to fix this problem?
When I email him I get an error: No such user here. I'm assuming that this is because the server recognizes his domain, but doesn't find the email account.
Thanks,
Eve

Make sure that his domain is not created on your mail server when you hosted his domain. Double check on your mail server and make sure that your client's domain is not present.

Hi,
You go to check the DNS settings for the domain. The domain was created on your server and it is likely that the domain would have created default MX also, which is causing it to lookup on your server.
Check the DNS of the domain that is using remote Mail server and make those changes in it. It will surely work..

Make sure the domain is not listed in local delivery list of the mail server, on your server. if it is a cPanel server.
1. grep "domainname" /etc/localdomains
2. If the domain is listed in /etc/localdomains, you have to move the domain to remote domains.
3. WHM >> Home »DNS Functions »Edit DNS Zone >> Select the DNS zone of the domain >> Click Edit
4. At the bottom of the page, under "Email Routing for" select "Remote Mail Exchanger" >> Click Save
5. Confirm the domain is removed from /etc/localdomains
Now try to send the email an it should work.
If you are using any other control panel or mail server, please give the details.

All fixed! Thanks. NixTree, I followed your directions. I had it in my head that it was going to be more complicated than that!
