SSL for personal use

| Hello, I've got a VPS which is running httpd/Apache and Im hosting an owncloud service. Which I share my files with people. Till now I have a self-signed certificate. This is not ideal for me cause each time a friend trying to access the file I shared with him, the browser warns him for an untrusted certificate. This is not good cause people with no knowledge, they see the red warnings and they are like "ohh, virus". I would like a cheap SSL certificate which will make those warning go away. Im not willing to spend too much cause as I mention is not something commercial. I have seen different costs from free to $500/y.
I also I have seen some warnings about cheap certificates.
What do you suggest?

| You could check Namecheap.com they have cheaper certificates for a few dollars.

| Hi,
The costs are basically based on the level of encryption. The more the encryption the more its better. There are various Certificate Authorities that provide SSL on a good provide, like Namecheap. You can check their site and see what new offers they have, which suits best your requirements.
You can also have live chat with them to get your doubts cleared.

| Nothing wrong with cheap ssl's, they all work the same. Try out using one of the trial certificates which some people offer.

| PositiveSSL's are industry standard and available for $5.95/yr from GoGetSSL. I can see your thinking regarding this without a doubt and when there's so many cheap options available like the one I listed, it's an obvious choice

| NameCheap's $9 SSL should do just fine for you.
