Nameserver Questions
Posted by qualityeye, 03-07-2013, 09:00 PM |
My website is mydomain.com . I already have a site on it. I got a reseller account and have created the nameservers ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com .
Under normal circumstances I put the nameservers at the domain registrar as ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com as the nameservers for the site, but what would happen if I left the nameservers as ns1.anotherdomain.com and ns2.anotherdomain.com?
Basically I created nameservers with the domain, but I want to host the site elsewhere. Is that possible? Or should it work right just like that? Or does the site have to be hosted at the same place as it is a nameserver?

As long as your DNS provider be it yourself or another company has the correct DNS records for your domain. You can point it anywhere you like.
DNS does not need to be hosted on the same box, location or even continent.

Yes possible. Just make sure that you set up A record for nameservers at the server hosting your domain.

It is not necessary to be hosted on the same box. But you need to go to DNS zone of domain at hosting and create two A records and point them to the IP addresses of server where your domain name is actually pointing.

Ok I set it up yesterday, but I'll know in a week or so if everything is working fine since that is when I'll be adding domains. Thanks for the help.
