Looking for a host that uses a data center in Iceland

Posted by offgrid, 03-09-2013, 02:46 PM
We need a host that in using an Icelandic data center. We were going to go with mygreenhosting.com but the alarm bells went off when we seen that they are currently not taking new customers they send you to greengeeks. |So anyone know of anyone that offers reseller hosting on an Icelandic server?

Went to sign up and was surprised to see the price was different than what they had on the front page. I pointed this out to the support and they said: "The listed costs are all the lowest possible costs- and they have details if you click the green links below them" But I pointed out that you have no way on knowing its a link until you mouse over the price "Some things, such as when a browser displays a line to indicate a link, are not easy to control, or impossible- however I am sure we will do our best to improve the visibility of the pricing details over time. Again, it's not our intention to hide anything." So I think I will keep looking But Thanks for the link Brian do you know any more.

OK, there are more shared hosting companies and VPS providers but I'm not aware of any more reseller hosts, sorry.

I remember URPad.net advertising Icelandic VPS systems, but that's been some time ago. Might be worth a look.

Urpad, IcelandVPS, EDIS are three I know of.

It's common marketing trick. Some providers list cheapest price on website which requires 2 years - 3 years prepayment. Monthly price is more expensive.

ok, I have a silly question. Why? Is there something special about Iceland I am unaware of? I would think the connectivity would be limited. Legal issue?

Hi Skaman, As a previous poster mentioned, this is a fairly common pricing tactic among hosting companies - and we don't like it any more than you do. Unfortunately we have to play along. When other companies post their 3-year pricing on their homepage and we don't - we have the opposite problem where people will come to our site and think we are much more expensive, even though our month-to-month pricing is still cheaper than most other hosts out there. With the promo that's we've been running this month, our pricing is even cheaper than normal, you just have to enter the coupon code at checkout and at the last page of checkout you'll see the final discounted price. Good luck in your search and if you do end up wanting to give us a try, I'm available to answer any other questions you might have. Thanks, Andy
