Reseller in a box?

Posted by GeckoD, 08-06-2013, 06:46 AM
Hey folks, My first post here, so go easy on the newb . I've been searching the forums a bit but could not find such a thread. If there is one, kindly point me to it. I'm thinking about getting into the reseller business. What I would like is a complete "web hosting reseller in a box" solution. Assuming I have "nothing" (i.e. no domain, host, shopping cart etc), is there some package that I buy now, and within minutes (provided the DNS propagates fast enough), someone else can buy a domain and hosting from me and have their Wordpress site up and running (again, provided that DNS propagates)? I envision my ideal like this: 10 AM: I visit this site 10:05: I choose the reseller package and the domain where my web hosting will be 10.10: I pay the first month 10:15: I visit the domain I just bought at 10 minutes earlier and see that I'm online with a default page and default packages and default costs and all defaults. 10.20: I email the link to my friend 10.25: My friend (who also has "nothing") visits my website and "begins the process" 10.30: My friend chooses his domain name (guess this means it should have a domain name reseller account readily-integrated (?) ) 10.35: My friend chooses his plan (from the defaults) and pays (somehow I get the money "somewhere") 10.40: My friend is inside his cpanel and sets up a Wordpress site from Fantastico or similar 10.45: My friend sends me a link to his new wordpress website and we congratulate each other My question is: is there such a thing as I'm looking for available? If yes, where? If no, is there anything that comes close? Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Eager to learn :-) GeckoD

I hope you are also looking at a reliable provider. Not in a minute, but any decent provider can set you up in an hour or so, after taking in some points from you. And there is resellerspanel.com too, search for reviews on them first.

You might want to take a look at ResellerClub.com or Godaddy's reseller program (Not as good in my opinion, but includes support and payment processing).

Thanks for replying! I'm almost sold on resellerspanel "free" model... A few interesting things: * apparently, they won't let you charge your customers more than 2x the retail price for some reason. * from what I gather, your customers would have to pay yearly, there's no option to pay monthly. I'm curious, are there any other options out there? Thanks~

ResellerCluster.com There you can also offer three months hosting. I used them myself for over a year. I moved away since their downtimes and the server speed are rediculous.

I would honestly advise against this because what happens when you want to change something or something is broken? You didn't do any of the setup and would have no idea how any of it works so you would be at a loss on how to make the changes or fixes you need. A regular reseller account with WHMCS and following the WHMCS documentation you can be up and selling in an hour or two.

There are solutions like this but I'd strongly advise against it. There are so many things that could go wrong if you choose that route.

OK folks I hear you. So then I'll get a proper reseller and sweat a bit (hopefully not too much he he) to set everything up. I've been looking around and I think for starters I'll go with hostgator. I know their service is not top notch lately (I have a bunch of websites with them) but they're not so expensive to begin with, and they have billing platform, which is a big plus for me. My plan is to out-grow them soon ha ha and (somehow) move to a managed dedicated server (elsewhere). My intuition says the hostgator aluminium thingy is good enough to start with. So if anybody has an aff link that they can post here or PM me, I'll use the first link I see. Otherwise I'll just go to their website directly. Thank you for all your advice!

I was going to reply but since your looking to go with Hostgator I'll save some time haha. Try 404page as their promotion. Good luck.

Hmm they say I already have an account with them (which is true heh) so I'm not sure they will count this one...

Well you could contact Patrick on patrick[at]hostgator.com his the COO and you could ask him to see if they can help you with a discount.

Well, it's done now, I got "their most valuable coupon" which strangely was defaulted for me in the coupon box , they wouldn't let me use 404page because it doesn't apply to "package addons". Wish me luck folks, guess you'll see me around for a while while I get get this thing going... Cheers!

Reliability and good customer service with a host that knows what they are doing is key with reseller hosting, make sure to work with a provider that allows you to resell multiple different services in multiple different locations which is a value add now a days.
