Debian 8 on 2.6.32 Openvz kernel

Hi, I want to know if I can install Debian 8 on an openvz container. I will run it on a slave node with SolusVM and "uname -a" : Linux nsXXXXXXXX.ovh.net 2.6.32-042stab083.2 #1 SMP Fri Nov 8 18:08:40 MSK 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I've heard that's impossible with 2.6.32 kernel. But I managed to install it (Debian 8), but I've severals errors like : And I can't ping my VPS. But all networks configurations are same as an other VPS on Debian 7.1 (who works on 2.6.32 kernel with openvz). So, after search on Google, I find that's not possible to run Debian 8 on 2.6.32 kernel. What's your advice ? Have you any solution ? Regards,

The OpenVZ kernel is not a mainstream kernel; it's a RHEL kernel, which has many backported features. However, it's not recommended to use systemd containers with it. Looking around, looks like systemd requires an extra configuration step to run in OpenVZ CT. Inside the CT, add the following line to /etc/systemd/system.conf : (From https://openvz.org/Docker_inside_CT ) After that, reboot your CT; if it still doesn't works, that may be a major incompatibility, so I would recommend you to look for full virtualizacion(KVM) or LXC, which is more up to date than OpenVZ (which is currently considered obsolete).

You really need to be running a newer kernel. There's been security vulnerabilities (container breakout, iirc) after the kernel you're on. Either schedule a reboot with your clients, live patch yourself or use kernelcare/ksplice. Funnily enough, that'll also fix your Debian 8 problem without ripping out systemd
