VPS Recommendation

Posted by DarkoG, 01-26-2016, 12:15 PM
Hello Guys, I am planning to launch my url shortener app built in with Laravel and Angullar but i am wondering what unmanaged vps package to choose. Currently i am more for ovh and their "VPS SSD 1" to try for start but i am a bit confused how strong will be the vps with only one core. The application is light and in those first phases i do not except more than 1000 visitors a day. I look forward hearing from you. Also, another vps i like is tmzvps the london location openvz "VU-2G" that will cost $8 with the current promotion and that is twice as double from ovh. Any other suggestions and recommendation are welcome. Budget up to $100 yearly. Last edited by DarkoG; 01-26-2016 at 12:24 PM.

No, it only will host one domain for my laravel app and two wordpress instances for my themes that i resell and work on currently ( they won't be visited by visitors - just for testing from me ) I plan to use nginx(latest), php7(latest), phpmyadmin. I will aim to optimize it as much as possible.

Your budget seems to be fine for a VPS. Any preferences about the location you want to choose from? And what kind of RAM and disk space are you looking for?

With your budget, you can stick with OVH. Do not expect to get more from it.

OVH SSD comes with 1 core and its KVM, so you should be fine with that much traffic, if 10Gigs storage is workable for you.

That OVH SSD VPS is also available on their OpenStack public cloud platform for the same price and the open stack version is probably the better option because you can add additional disks, setup a cluster if your site grows, etc. (scroll down to the "also available for 2.99" section on this page and click on the + sign to see the open stack version https://www.ovh.ie/cloud/instances/ ) UnixBench scores for their 1 core SSD VPS are 1625

Basically CPU and RAM configuration is depend on your web site traffic, if currently traffic is low then you can stay with "VPS SSD 1" plan and once traffic increased you can upgrade your plan, but be careful with OVH support and keep take a backup for your VPS to secure data

I'd have to recommend budgetvm just because you have more control over your vps.
