How to prepare a bare VPS for Plesk install? Scaleway from Online.net
Posted by l0nglive, 08-24-2016, 06:28 AM |
Hi, I kept getting problem with Scaleway VPS from online.net
The Plesk installation always failed because of the FQDN error. IT asked for full domain name which I don't know.
The only info I got the Scaleway control panel is the name of the instance, and its IP address. Can anyone please show me how to prepare a bare VPS for Plesk install?
THanks,

Your domain name for the server should be: vps.example.com
Unless you have been provided a host name just make something up, this can always be changed later.

Make sure your hostname is FQDN like server.yourdomain.com, anything.yourdomain.com
and in /etc/hosts :
111.222.333.444 server.yourdomain.com server
And then use autoinstaller https://kb.plesk.com/en/119521

Would it cause problem if I type in any random name with the server IP?
The VPS from Scaleway doesn't give me any clue how to come up with that full name. Is it vpsxxx.scaleway.com or something. STupid host.
Thanks for instruction.

If you have a domain you will be using the server for/with just use yourdomain.com and make up a host name.
This all can be changed later if needed

1. Ask them.
2. If no answer, find a better host.
Why are you even having to install it yourself? It sounds like you need a managed host.

So you're calling Scaleway Stupid because Plesk asks you for providing the FQDN? Why are you giving Scaleway the blame when it's not their software.
It's an unmanaged service, and you should be capable of sorting those issues by yourself.
Also keep in mind Scaleway doesn't use raid on their storage, so you'd have to build redundancy using multiple machines, just so you're aware.
