I am trying to find a nice web based tool, php or whatever to view and search syslogs.
Need it to be free.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim

What exactly do you want to search for? Such tools would probably be useless since they would need root to view specific logs that don't have world readable permissions.
What we do is syslog-ng to the remote server and then just a custom script to loop through all of them but not to display on the web.
As for searching, grep ?

Manage Engine Eventlog analyzer is nice, but might be a bit heavy for small setups. It's free for up to 5 hosts I believe. ME applications do ask for some firm hardware to install on. We have run Netflow Analyzer on a desktop that was also being used for 'normal' work (windows). That is not advisable. We now run these applications on dedicated hosts (linux), and that works fine.

Have a look at the CPanel forums, I'm sure I saw one there the other day thats an addon to CPanel/WHM with view, download and log rotate features.

Have a look at Splunk http://www.splunk.com/features/2000

I had a look at splunk, would not be free for what we wanted to do I do not believe.
I will continue to play with it to see if I can make it work for what we want...
Thanks for the suggestions guys,
I will continue looking into them.
Thanks,
Jim
