Best games servers to host?

Hi, I'm completely new here, this is my first post, and I don't even know if it's the correct forum. Anyway, I'm looking to host a few game servers with a small community that will hopefully expand in the future. System specs/requirements doesn't really matter to me, I'll check what I need for everything I want to put on the server and choose an appropriate host once I know what specs I will be needing. Cost also doesn't matter all that much, even the most expensive and overkill servers I've researched seem to be within the budget. Anyway, I'm planing on hosting a Minecraft server (possibly up to 2 or 3 of them), maybe a San Andreas Multiplayer server, and a webserver that has PHP, Apache, Perl, and all that lovely needed stuffs. My question is: What other servers can I host as additional servers, and can I possibly add extra features for VIPs, etc. To make a few extra bucks to help with the server payment? I'm not too worried about how long this may take to start making more money than the sever will cost, I'm well aware that with the hard work and dedication it can still take years to get to that point, but I'd mostly like to concentrate on adding servers that may increase the size of the community at this point. Thanks! (Also, if this is the incorrect forum, please let me know and if you're a moderator, feel free to move it)

For a game server I'd suggest you look at using a Intel E3 type of server with 32GB ram and a SSD that should be all you need for starting out.

Are you looking for the provider to help you with any sort of management or do you have that under control? Also, any specific geographical region in mind?

Focusing on building a community on one or two games only first, without an active community, game server hosting as an individual usually doesn't go far in terms of not losing money. Minecraft is one of the better ones but regardless it's hard to gain an active community unless you have something unique to show. Adding more types of servers (whether it be for one game or five games) is a bad idea unless you have a large base since that's just going to split up the community and make it impossible for them to interact with eachother. Since you brought up Minecraft, you should just do that and only that. Just keep your costs low, don't buy server resources that you don't need. SAMP is pretty popular but from my experience more so in South America than any other.

You may start with virtual machine and only upgrade it to dedicated server when it getting more and more traffic. For gaming server, you need to have a very good connectivity for the server, best is you try to request their IP for testing before you purchase the server to make sure the network is good.

Yes I agree with you. network latency is the most important thing for the Game Servers. better to start rom a VPS. If it is going well he can upgrade to a Dedicated Server.

Server latency is also important :-)

Location location location. Good ping is probably the most important thing for game servers.
