I am planning to buy a dedicated server but to test the water want to go with low in budget. Want to sell off VPS from it so will require extra ips for that purpose. I have following options in list. Kindly recommend which one would be better or any other service that offers low dedicated server. 1. Budget VM---(Semi dedicated as it's cloud based though I'll get dedicated resources) Cloud Server CPU Cores Memory Default Drives Bandwidth DDOS Protection Monthly Xeon E3-1230 2 x 3.3GHz 4GB DDR3 250GB SATA 5TB / 100 Mbps port 1 Gbps / 500K PPS $29/mo(Will have buy extra ips so 1$/ipv4) 2. Joes Data Center Intel Xeon Harpertown Monthly $35 2x L5420 8 Cores / 8 Threads 8GB RAM 500GB SATA Hard Drive 10TB Bandwidth 5 IPv4 (/29) 3. Dedi Rush CPU Series Memory Drive Bandwidth Free IPs Monthly Dual Intel Xeon 5150 4Core 4Thread 8GB RAM 500GB SATA Hard Drive 33TB Monthly Transfer 5 $60.00 Couldn't find hetzner dedi servers in auction for now others are expensive. Will appreciate if someone can guide me where to start experimenting with dedis.

What type of VPS you want to sell ? OpenVz , Xen or KVM ? Personally I don't like for all of options because these servers are not suitable for VPS business. You need at lest 32GB RAM . If you can increase your RAM capacity for the Xeon E3-1230 ( cloud server ) you can go with that.

I will go with OpenVZ....and I think I can easily slice up 5 server for 1 GB ram still leaving 3 GB RAM for server itself.

If you have limited containers with OpenVZ 8 GB will be enough for you. But better to add a higher capacity hard drive . In case if you need to expand your business in future you have to give a big effort to increase your node capacity.

Need to remember the early XEON processors do not have virtualization fully implemented into them, so your performance will be less then a modern cpu.

Do you have any location preference?

I can point out that the location of your servers should be close to the target location of your audience. Speed connectivity and load time of your clients' pages will be faster.

Hi Waqass, Did you mean that you couldn't find the dedicated server you were looking for? Or could you not for the server auction itself...? All of the servers in the Hetzner Online server auction are dedicated root servers. And they all get DDoS protection. Please let me know if I can help in any way. --Katie, Marketing

At the time of auction no xeon server was available... @rest I am preferring US location however as I said before I want to learn before going big so cheapest dedicated server with the possibility of selling off VPS from it is what I need here.

You want cheap so the answer is obvious. Choice 1. I wouldn't go that route to build a business, but that's just me.

Hi! I've use Joes its good DC fast install and support is okay, Budget VM is also okay but this is not dedicated.

I know personally that Joe's is a good company to go through. I have never used VM Budget so YMMV.

I checked with VM. They told me this is their cloud solution and selling off vps through it is not allowed. So joes company and hetzner are the probably the cheapest one out there.

Dont sacrifice your new business reputation by going for the cheapest server, I would recommend you to go for any reliable company, may be you need to pay like 30-40 USD extra but still it will save you a lot in the long run .. for running few VPS container's any E3 with 16GB RAM will be fine and i think you can get this server in cheap price too around 100 USD

Dear I will certainly go for big bucks but just let me test out the vps settings and solusvm.
