MaxClient setting if wrong can block out visiors?

So I was looking at my traffic logs, and I was getting 13-16k visitors per day on one site, with maxclient set at 1000. I changed it to 500 on a recent server I got and now the website is barely breaking 10k visitors. It was getting 13k-16k per day average for the past month. If I set it too low does it actually block out people?

yes it does. check out http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod...tml#maxclients there should be error message in the log file.

You will see the message in apache error_log like something: MaxClient limit has been reached. Consider to increase it...
