Access corrupt partition

Posted by GeXus, 06-25-2008, 01:48 PM
Hello, I have two partitions on my hard drive, each have an installation of windows XP, the old partition got corrupt and I can no longer boot windows from it, however I am able to see the files when on the other partition, the problem is I am unable to access the files. Is there anyway I can get permissions to delete/move those files? Thanks!

You could use a linux Live CD like Knoppix or others, and then boot to that cd. using linux, you can recover/delete files from within any other partition, providing it is mounted, and mounted correctly. If you feel comfortable doing this, I will walk you through the steps on how to solve this. Best regards

I'm not too familiar with Windows, but shouldn't it be possible to run some kind of file system check on the corrupt partition while running on the other partition? This way you should be able to correct the problems and you might be able to boot again from your corrupt partition, if no critical files are lost/corrupted.
