Cant go in Horde webmail, is it becoz of PHP upgrade?

Hi I'm very inexperience with servers and control panel. But our company has just migrated to an unmanaged server with PLESK 8.4 control panel. We upgraded PHP to PHP 5.2.6 and MySQL to MySQL 5.0.58 based on the advise of our programmer. Before that our webhost warned us that the old version of PHP & MySQL are bundled with PLESK so if we upgrade them separately... some disruptions or errors may occur. Now we are experiencing some email disorders: - webmail doesn't work - error msg on screen says,"A fatal error has occurred. DB Error: extension not found. Details have been logged for the administrator." - Sender received failure msg, but we received the mail Are disorders cause by the upgrading? Anyone can advise if the upgraded PHP & MySQL compatible with PLESK 8.4? If not, what sort of errors will likely to occur? Much appreciated. Our server system details: CPU - GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Xeon(R)CPU 3050 @ 2.13GHz Version - psa v8.4.0_build84080514.18 os_CentOS 4.2 OS - Linux 2.6.9-55.ELsmp control panel - PLESK 8.4.0 PHP - 5.2.6-1.el4.art MySQL - 5.0.58-1.el4.art

Your webhost is correct, Plesk was taking care of php and mysql before you upgraded it. Now you have multiple versions and things are likely to be confused, and it might be tricky to reverse. I would try to remove the new packages and possibly reinstall Plesk to get things going again. Plesk support be able to offer some hints on how to upgrade components individually, but I'm betting that is not supported at all, and would be a nightmare to manage.

How did you upgrade php and mysql in the server?

Sounds to me like PHP or the MySQL install wasn't put in the same place as the Plesk versions...which is fairly normal when you do something like this....so it is looking for connections and files that don't exist where they were before...I bet if you do a search for the php config file...you will have TWO...you are going to have to get someone to wade thru this and get it straightened out.

hi, the upgrading of PHP & MySQL is done by our host with an ad hoc service charge. Therefore, I'm not sure of how it's been done. But as we are revamping our website with lots of cutting-edge features and some e-commerce features that's why our programmer (externally engaged) advises us to upgrade the PHP & MySQL. Our situation is that we have limited budget yet need to have the capacity of dedicated server...that's why we opt for unmanaged dedicated server (with a 2yr-contract) becoz it's cheaper. But then we realised our host's package only comes with PLESK which doesn't have an option on its interface to upgrade PHP easily. Therefore we are now deciding between 2 options: 1.) Engaging a short-term management service from our host to settle the configuration of the new server and to resolve the PHP & MySQL upgrading problem and any other problem that arises. But for long term consideration, would it be advisable? OR 2.) Change to another control panel that offers easier way of upgrading PHP & MySQL. more user-friendly to inexperience administrator. (I heard cPanel is easier to use and learn than PLESK). But that will incur extra cost. Last edited by euniceling; 08-18-2008 at 12:06 AM.
