Any INFO on SmartServers ??

Hi, very very new and have been watching the board for the last couple of weeks. I've been looking at a deal thru SmartServers and wanted to know if anyone here has had any dealings with them. I did a search of the board and there were no posts with this company or website name in them. Thanks

We've never used their services but I do remember that we'd been to their site about 3 years ago (the look still hasn't changed one bit!) so they have been around for quite a while. The "virtual servers" that they offer have capabilities very similar to the HostPro's (then VServers') mid-range virtual hosting plans, in that you actually get "root" access via a shared environment. OLM (which has quite a good reputation) offers something similar via their RSE plans. They come bundled with the Ensim control panel so it would be a lot easier to manage your OLM accounts than SmartServers' (which don't seem to come with any control panel software, which means you'll have to administer everything via Telnet or purchase control panel software to use with them). Thanks Mark, sorry ... it took a bit to get back here. If they've been around 3yrs and no one's talking about them here .... I guess that's good right? My main thing is that I really don't want to become a "fulltime reseller". I have a few domains with one of them having multiple alias' going to it. A couple of friends have domains and very low needs for traffic. I currently have the donhost reseller package because of the ability to add all my other domains and point the ones I need to. SmartServers has a couple of good plans that are in my price range but I'm still undecided. Here's what I would like to have: ... at least 400-600MB of space (I don't need " space) but ability to add more at a resonable rate is needed ... at least 8-10GB of bandwidth each month (with additional being no more than $2-$3 per GB) .... and the kicker ... for no more than - $20-$30 a month (less if quarterly or more) - the ability to have the same features in a control panel that are available on a reseller account (multiple "virtual" accounts {I need 10} under master account / each with their own control panel-ftp-cgi-ect.) ... without having to pay "oneoff / one-time" fees for such things as mx changes / subdomain creations / alias' / additional domains ect. .... and all this for a small setup fee and discounted prepayment schedules. I'd like to start with three months and if that works out then be able to go semi-anually or anually. None of these sites have adult content. One domain is adult natured in title but the only thing on the site would be a index "for sale" page, no other content. If anyone on the board has any good leads that would satisfy these requirements please post a link and I'll check them out. <<<< post edit was .... the size requirements have been changed to reflect actual needs, as figures before were just an example >>> Last edited by aje40; 05-07-2001 at 08:06 AM.

I don't think you'll find 8-10GB of space for $20-$30/month
