Liquid Web

Posted by hawardtechnology, 09-01-2016, 02:00 AM
Good Morning Webhostingtalk, So I have been searching for a couple of days for a DS that can host our servers. My order was very specific and very critical to us as a company. To order servers that allow SMTP/POP3 and does not block any of those ports yet at the same time allow our massive amount of mail without causing issues, with good server specifications and good customer support. And I have been talking to Liquid Web for the past few days and I am shocked at the amount of dedication and customer service that they offer. I ordered a dedicated server from them and would be happy to recommend them to other people in the near future. I will expand on my order in the next few days/weeks when I have fully tested their services, but for now the customer support is amazing. Especially "Tommie Lynn (Liquid Web)", I had the chance to talk to him over the phone and he is a world class customer support agent. My Review: Customer Support: 10/10Speed of Support: 10/10Flexibility & Understanding: 10/10Following up with customer: 10/10Prices: 6/10Customizing Dedicated Server: 4/10IPMI/KVM Options - Unmanaged: 0/10 The above review is as of 1/9/2016. To be continued...

I'm curious about why you rated then 4/10 on customizability. Any details on that?

Is that September or January? :-)

Definitely September, but some people will read it as September and some will read it as 9th January :p What about the customizing servers? They do not offer this service? Always read good things about their support and services, nice to see another good review about them.

Good review. I was confused by the date at first too, but realized I was reading it wrong. Kudos to Tommie and the Liquid Web team.

I'm curious about this one too. I know that their online ordering is fairly limited when it comes to server customization but if you get in touch with them directly they can really sort whatever solution you need out. From my understanding, I thought LiquidWeb offered IPMI/KVM access (albeit I believe it's Dell iDRAC) however, if you wanted a dedicated device rather than the on board BMC you'd need to pay an extra $50/mo as to be expected so I am not sure why this is a "0" unless LiquidWeb is actually charging for access to the onboard BMC rather than a dedicated IPMI/KVM device?

Little Update: It has been 5 days since I have ordered the server 31/8/2016. And it still hasn't been setup yet. A little disappointed to be honest... I contacted the support multiple times, and they are trying to make this go faster but. 5 days is beyond long to setup a server with no customizations.

That's a little bit poor to be honest, especially by today's standards in such a competitive marketplace. I'm not sure whether LiquidWeb's provisioning guys work on weekends, some providers do and some don't, so you can knock it back to three business days so far I guess, but even that's a long time. Did you check when you ordered that they had the server in stock ready to provision? All seems very strange, maybe even out of the ordinary for LW.

Posted by hawardtechnology, 09-04-2016, 04:37 AM
I did, the first time we talked I got told that it would take MAX 48 HRS, so I waited. Second Time, I got told that their real max is 72HRS, so.. again I waited. Third Time, I got told that there is an issue with the Amsterdam DS and that they will get it done in the same day. (After 3 days) Fourth Time, I got told that they will contact management and get this done. (After 5 days - Today) ------------------- But it has been around 130 HRS, we are close to being 6 days now from the time I ordered. I understand that the support cannot do anything about this other than email or call the datacenter, but I ordered a basic server, with basic customizations, they only have 4 options, I mean how hard is it to setup a basic windows server 2012 and give it IP. I'm a network administrator, and I can setup 4 servers with 20 VS and 300 devices under 3 days... What I hope for is that they will compensate me somehow for lost time, I requested that a compensation of free upgrade to 64GB ram would be appreciated. As I have been delayed from doing my job as a network administrator for 5 days now, and the senior management is pressuring me to get this done so I might just cancel my order and go with another company.

I am assuming that you aren't stuck in any sort of validation? Five days is definitely too long to wait for a provisioning of a server unless it was a custom configuration (including any custom rack or network setup). With exception to IBM SoftLayer because not everyone is IBM, I'd imagine the maximum wait time would be 72 hours (excluding the weekends). Remember, in the United States we're on a holiday weekend. This shouldn't "ordinarily" effect a datacenter provision in a country not observing the holiday but if I'm not mistaken, LiquidWeb is "technically" based in Arizona (or some other state). I wouldn't expect anything until at least Tuesday now. I've only seen SoftLayer get provisions up even across U.S. holidays and usually within 2-3 hours (even on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day or New Year's Eve/New Year's Day) but they even say it could take 24-72 hours based on availability.

1) No validation or payment issue, it was all authenticated. 2) LiquidWeb are working on weekends. 31/8/2016 (Wednesday) -> TBA - is the current wait time, and in few more hours its going to be 6 days waiting time from the time I ordered.

I'd suggest cutting your losses, request a refund and simply source an alternative provider now. That seems like a completely unacceptable period of time to wait with no sense of real justification from LW.

Hello hawardtechnology, I'm terribly sorry to hear about the difficulty you're having with this order you placed. I would love to personally take a look into this issue to see what I can do to help; if you could please PM me something so that I can identify your LiquidWeb account with then I can get started on that. Once I've been able to look into this I, or someone who can assist you further, will reach out to you directly via an official Support Channel. Thank you, LiquidWebDan

Any update on what was the outcome of this case?

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Can you elaborate about score of Customizing Dedicated Server 4/10

Posted by SenseiSteve, 10-19-2016, 02:24 PM
I think the confusion is that you ordered a server with no customization, yet scored them a 4/10 on that. How was this order resolved?

Congrats to OP for finding a provider who meets their requirements. I've never used LiquidWeb myself but figured they must be excellent given they host WebHostingTalk. All the best.
