understanding SpamAssassin required_score value ??

Greetings. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I'm just not grokking the setup for SpamAssassin. I've Read (the relevant parts of) The Friendly Manual, but it's just not coming together. Here's the deal -- notwithstanding several polite requests and the resetting of my preferences, a particular news website just won't turn off their Daily Brief email to me. So it's blacklist time. I used the cPanel interface (clunky at best) to add the email address, who@where.com (name changed to protect the not so innocent), to my blacklist. The last two lines of /.spamassassin/user_prefs now appear as follows: blacklist_from who@where.com required_score 5 My question involves the 'required_score' value -- why 5? Wouldn't I want it to be set at 0 or 1? I don't want this email. At all. Wisdom welcome. Thanks kindly. - Richard Last edited by expatCanuck; 09-02-2008 at 02:31 PM.

required_score is the score for any email to be classified as junk, not the ones listed on your blacklist. Setting it to 1 or 0 would filter out almost every email you get. The ones on your blacklist will automatically be 100 points.
