Worst case senario for a switch ?
Hiyall,
What is the worst case scenario that one can face if they switched all the sudden from mysql 4.1 to mysql 5 ? Are both similar to each other ? Anyone have experiences to share maybe as to what happened when you switched from 4.1 to 5 ?
I am kinda worried as to breaking up sites and wrecking havoc ( i got bunch of wordpress blogs, vb forums, smf forum and phbb too )
Also what can one expect if moving from say 4.1 based hosting to version 5 based hosting ? Say if someone has backup from 4.1 version and they try to restore it on a host with 5 ?

Backup the databases and try to update. I don't think there are major changes and blogs forums etc are compatible with both versions mysql 4 or 5.

It all depends on whether the script is compatible at all with the newer version. If it is, I don't think there would be any problems. However, if it isn't you might end up with errors and being forced to downgrade back to make your script work again.

The format of the databases themselves are slightly different which can cause some issues. I don't remember if MySQL updates the databases automatically during the upgrade but I know that you should back up all of the databases before making the change just in case.
There are utilities that can upgrade the databases to MySQL5 off-server if you need to but I cannot think of one off hand.

bunny, i assume you are running on cpanel server.
After you have set to 5.0 for mysql in tweak settling, you have to recompile apache
