Worst case senario for a switch ?

Worst case senario for a switch ? Hiyall, What is the worst case scenario that one can face if they switched all the sudden from mysql 4.1 to mysql 5 ? Are both similar to each other ? Anyone have experiences to share maybe as to what happened when you switched from 4.1 to 5 ? I am kinda worried as to breaking up sites and wrecking havoc ( i got bunch of wordpress blogs, vb forums, smf forum and phbb too ) Also what can one expect if moving from say 4.1 based hosting to version 5 based hosting ? Say if someone has backup from 4.1 version and they try to restore it on a host with 5 ? __________________█View My DNS provides Dns Report, Is my Website Down checks and more █ Clients testimonials:" These guys are very responsive and understanding. Backup the databases and try to update. I don't think there are major changes and blogs forums etc are compatible with both versions mysql 4 or 5.

It all depends on whether the script is compatible at all with the newer version. If it is, I don't think there would be any problems. However, if it isn't you might end up with errors and being forced to downgrade back to make your script work again. __________________Rageki Web Hosting Solutions - Canada

The format of the databases themselves are slightly different which can cause some issues. I don't remember if MySQL updates the databases automatically during the upgrade but I know that you should back up all of the databases before making the change just in case. There are utilities that can upgrade the databases to MySQL5 off-server if you need to but I cannot think of one off hand. __________________█ Michael Denney - MDDHosting, LLC - Professional Hosting Solutions█ Shared, Reseller, Semi-Dedicated, VPS, and Dedicated █ http://www.mddhosting.com/
