I have never used them but it looks like they have been around for a while as their domain was registered back in 1997. Always a good thing

Prior to getting our own merchant account, I used them with excellent results.

The list of 'incidental charges' seems somewhat severe at:

The charge for 'investigations' sounds like a charge everytime a customer service issue comes up.

They are great.
But if a chargeback happens, let me tell ya, they are good at taking your money

I've used Propay (for a non-hosting, ecommerce company) for about a year now. I haven't had a problem with them. I've communicated with their customer service three or four times, via their live help desk, and have been satisfied with their response each time. I believe their live help desk hours are posted on the site, but it's not 24/7. I've never had a chargeback from them, but this company only runs on average $1,500/month in credit card charges, average sale @$125. No chargebacks because I take responsibility to ensure that the customers are clean and take orders on a secure server and run the charges manually rather than have them automatically processed. At about a dozen credit card orders a month, this is not especially time consuming, but you may find this a bit cumbersome. Fraud protection is only AVS verification. My impression is that 2checkout is more diligent with fraud protection, but I've only been using 2checkout for about a month or so. In any case, use a 3rd party processor like Propay only if you're planning on running under $2000/month in credit card charges. If you're going to have a higher volume, go for a traditional merchant account.

Does the ordinary wqay propay works by sending the customer an email with a link to propay's site for payment work out smoothly.
Some email programs can don't put the automatic hyper links in so the customer may have to copy and paste the url.

My experience with them wasn't good at all. I applied, and was declined for some reason (Which it didn't even say, I think I mis-typed something when filling out the form though). So I emailed support and ask why I was declined and if you could reset it so I could apply again since I think I made a mistake while filing out the form. I even spoke with live support on their site which said I'd have to wait and here from them via email as to the reason. No response in 3-4 days, I sent another email, no response again.. I sent one last email about a week later, still never received a single reply. I gave up on them after that, if they can't even supply basic customer service, then they aren't getting my business. I then just went ahead and opened up a REAL merchant account and have been a happy camper ever since
Best of luck,
David

Can you use propay for automatic processing, like 2checkout, Revecom, etc., or do you need to manually enter the card numbers. If the you need to manually enter them, then I suppose you need a secure server to receive the info.

The best thing I liked about ProPay is that my company name, not theirs, shows up on the charge account statement. That cut chargebacks down to nothing. In fact, in all the time I had ProPay I had ZERO chargebacks.
The down side: no Amex or Discover.
But hey, if you're going to pay ProPay $35 for the right to charge you 3.5% and .35 per transaction, just go to ECHO and get a real merchant account. Heck, they don't even charge you for chargebacks (first 5 per month).
