Getting Listed In Yahoo

Posted by Xecutech, 01-14-2003, 01:44 AM
Been awhile since I submitted a website to Yahoo. They actually charge you to submit your site...yearly!!! Does anyone know another way? Also, if they are to be a complete search engine why would they do this? I think it is ridiculus to pay when they don't even guarantee top placement for the fees etc.

Even if you pay, they don't guarantee a placement at all

The $299 payment is to expedite review. It does not guarantee getting list. We were fortunate to get one of our sites listed with a minimum of fuss. I guess you could wait the several weeks for a review if you don't want to pay the expedite fee. Harry

We listed 5 domains about a year ago and 2 of them were listed within the week, the other 3 took over 4 months. It depends on the category you submit in, i guess.

If your site meets the Yahoo requirements, they will list it eventually. ...or it has happend that something has gone wrong, maybe they pressed the wrong button , then you must try again. Most of the search engines sell high listings. Pay or you will find yourself down there.. If you pay for a listing AND meets the requirements, and you still dont get listed, you have the right to get your money back. Cantact their support. Personally I've never had problems with getting listed at Yahoo (for free). Have you omtimized your site for the search engine spiders?

Yahoo! has now replaced its human-powered web directory search results with Google's "crawler-based" results. With the old search, the primary search results were derived from its web directory, with links to more search results from the rest of the web, which were provided by Google. The new search results are the other way round. Google's search results appear first, and links to Yahoo!'s directory categories are listed underneath each listing, if appropriate. If your web site is indexed in Google or has a good PageRank, then you probably wouldn't benefit much, from a listing in the Yahoo! Directory. Why pay Yahoo! $299 yearly fee (non-refundable) for getting listed ???

How much google charge for listing in top 10. Any idea about that.

Google doesn't sell "top 10" listings. They do sell AdWords placement on the right side of the page and Sponsored Listings at the top. As for Yahoo, asc44's point is valid. Yahoo's directory listings now get secondary placment on their own site. While the listing will still get you some link pop (and Google PageRank) value, that's worth considering when evaluating whether it's worth $299 per year. Also keep in mind that Yahoo is in the process of finalizing their purchase of Inktomi, and there's no way yet to know what changes that might bring in Yahoo results.

I use multi-cap.com, and I'm listed in Yahoo. Good results turn out too. I believe that Yahoo feeds off of other search engines, if I'm not incorrect. Submit your site to dmoz.org. Works just as good.
