I am unable to reach a server I host at serverbeach in VA. I am also unable to reach any of the serverbeach.com subdomains (www, forums, my) I have tested from multiple networks and each one results in a failure. From an XO circuit in my other colo: jnichols@mail ~ $ /usr/sbin/traceroute -I www.pbp.net traceroute to box (64.34.162.201), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 192.168.10.1 (192.168.10.1) 1.442 ms 0.878 ms 0.917 ms 2 209.237.40.145 (209.237.40.145) 1.471 ms 1.484 ms 1.430 ms 3 209.237.28.17 (209.237.28.17) 1.608 ms 1.539 ms 1.373 ms 4 209.237.1.49 (209.237.1.49) 3.302 ms 3.626 ms 3.460 ms 5 66.237.62.130.ptr.us.xo.net (66.237.62.130) 3.839 ms 3.963 ms 3.388 ms 6 ge9-0.DCR2.DC-Fremont-CA.us.xo.net (205.158.60.169) 3.603 ms 3.383 ms 3.417 ms 7 ge2-0.DCR1.DC-Fremont-CA.us.xo.net (65.106.2.205) 3.906 ms 3.294 ms 3.283 ms 8 p4-1-0-2.RAR2.SanJose-CA.us.xo.net (65.106.2.177) 4.657 ms 4.543 ms 4.795 ms 9 p1-0.IR1.PaloAlto-CA.us.xo.net (65.106.5.178) 5.723 ms 5.695 ms 5.506 ms 10 bpr2-so-2-0-0.PaloAltoPaix.savvis.net (206.24.241.5) 5.292 ms 5.385 ms 5.279 ms 11 dcr2-so-3-3-0.SanFranciscosfo.savvis.net (208.172.147.93) 52.052 ms dcr2-so-0-3-0.SanFranciscosfo.savvis.net (208.172.147.97) 6.020 ms 6.025 ms 12 dcr1-so-2-0-0.LosAngeles.savvis.net (204.70.192.89) 14.117 ms dcr1-so-4-1-0.Denver.savvis.net (204.70.193.217) 54.838 ms 55.190 ms 13 dcr2-so-1-1-0.Chicago.savvis.net (204.70.193.226) 72.173 ms dcr2-as0-0.LosAngeles.savvis.net (204.70.192.118) 14.411 ms dcr2-so-1-1-0.Chicago.savvis.net (204.70.193.226) 72.853 ms 14 dcr1-so-2-0-0.dallas.savvis.net (204.70.192.85) 47.103 ms bcs2-so-6-0-0.Washington.savvis.net (204.70.192.29) 87.734 ms dcr1-so-2-0-0.dallas.savvis.net (204.70.192.85) 46.273 ms 15 dcr1-so-7-3-0.Atlanta.savvis.net (204.70.192.81) 83.251 ms cpr2-pos-14-2.VirginiaEquinix.savvis.net (206.24.238.218) 88.248 ms dcr1-so-7-3-0.Atlanta.savvis.net (204.70.192.81) 83.276 ms 16 bcs1-so-2-0-0.Washington.savvis.net (204.70.192.54) 83.281 ms 83.179 ms 208.173.10.194 (208.173.10.194) 87.261 ms 17 * cpr2-pos-14-3.virginiaequinix.savvis.net (206.24.227.106) 165.553 ms * 18 208.173.10.194 (208.173.10.194) 82.775 ms 83.041 ms * 19 * * * 20 * * * 21 * * * 22 * * * 23 * * * 24 * * * 25 * jnichols@mail ~ $ From my cable modem: veal:~ jnichols$ traceroute www.pbp.net traceroute to www.pbp.net (64.34.162.201), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 smokie (192.168.10.1) 1.754 ms 6.189 ms 1.199 ms 2 * * * 3 ge-2-1-ur02.santaclara.ca.sfba.comcast.net (68.87.198.133) 8.574 ms 9.909 ms 10.034 ms 4 10g-9-4-ar01.oakland.ca.sfba.comcast.net (68.87.192.34) 11.904 ms 18.261 ms 11.708 ms 5 * * * 6 12.117.240.85 (12.117.240.85) 11.893 ms 11.904 ms 13.415 ms 7 tbr2032701.sffca.ip.att.net (12.123.12.53) 75.230 ms 75.225 ms 75.678 ms 8 tbr1-cl2.sl9mo.ip.att.net (12.122.10.41) 75.537 ms 79.176 ms 75.701 ms 9 tbr1-cl4.wswdc.ip.att.net (12.122.10.29) 169.630 ms 77.662 ms 74.063 ms 10 gar1-p310.ascva.ip.att.net (12.123.8.57) 90.188 ms 77.263 ms 76.651 ms 11 * * * 12 oc48-pos0-0.wdc-sp2-cor-1.peer1.net (216.187.115.234) 83.995 ms 86.550 ms 88.632 ms 13 oc48-pos2-0.wdc-sp2-cor-2.peer1.net (216.187.115.246) 80.709 ms 81.499 ms 83.006 ms 14 * * * 15 * * * 16 * * * 17 * * * 18 * * * 19 * * * 20 * * * --- I can't hit my server or any of the other servers. My VA server is also down. But so is their main site and forums which are in TX.

Just called the number on the credit card bill and left a message.

Their site and all of our servers have been down since 10:39am Mountain time. They provide no support outside of their website and since their site is down, it's impossible to contact their support department. After contacting their new parent company Peer1, I was only told that they were having some sort of electrical problem. Well, you would think that they would have learned after the last 8+ hour outage that happened, which was due to their generators not functioning; it appears that they must not have fixed this problem. It is also very frustrating because they never contact their clients to let them know what is going on and when things will be fixed. They always refer you to forums.serverbeach.com, which is also down. We currently have 6 dedicated servers with them and will be moving them as soon as possible. We can't afford these lenghtly outage affecting 1,000's of our clients without a word from them as to what is going on. If you use Server Beach also, let's hear what you've got to say on the issue.

I thought that I should also mention who the best dedicated providers are from our experience. The best reliability has been with ValueWeb and the worst reliability has been with ServePath. The worst support has been with Server Beach by far, followed by EV1; although, I'd say in general that no one really has customer service in the dedicated server business. We've also recently started using Dedicated Now, but they don't have a reboot control panel, which isn't good. They have maintained a fairly good uptime record over the past 5 or 6 months.

Surprisingly the best customer support I have seen from the ones I have tried have been webnx, fdcservers and hivelocity. I say surprisingly as they are all seen as budget providers. Webnx isn't as surprising as I know Dan runs a good shop but with some of the comments regarding fdc I am actually quite surprised at how quickly they setup boxes and how quickly they respond to reboot and support requests. I literally had a reboot done in under 3 minutes. Hardly enough time to go to the bathroom.

A storm just blew through Virginia, so I think that may be part of why they are down. If this is correct, this will have been the third power related problem in about a year for them. We moved our box long ago, however it looks like things havn't improved much. Not good. Alex

I have two boxes with ServerBeach; the one in Virginia is down, the one in California is fine. The most annoying thing about this is that if their network goes down, so does their support, it's not even possible to view a network status. You'd think that with two data centres in two states they'd have some redundancy built in, at least so that customers could be kept in the loop. Had I not hunted around for a thread like this I'd have been non the wiser. By-the-way, steer clear of CI Host at all costs, if you're having problems with ServerBeach they're nothing compared to what CI Host can do to your business.

They actually have 3 datacenters, Virginia, California, and Texas. Oddly enough when the Virginia center went out before, the website was fine, so I'm not sure what's up here. Maybe they moved their site to Virginia, who knows. Alex

The IP for the main site and forums does appear to be in VA now.

I guess may previous post about Server Beach was deleted by mistake, as I can't believe that there would be any reason to purposefully delete it. I was writing to legitimately inform people about problems with Server Beach both now and in the past. The last outage we had lasted just over 8 hours due to loss of electrical power at the data center and a failure of their generator. Their data center has been offline for 3.5 hours now and there is no word as to when service will be restored. Server Beach never contacts their clients to let them know what is going on. We've made many calls to Peer1, only to be told that there is some electrical problem and that's all they know. I'm always told that they'll have the service up shortly, but that has dragged on for hours now.

Well after exactly 3hrs and 29mins, they're back online. There is still no information on their forums about what happened. This isn't as bad as the last 8+ hour outage we had to weather, but with 3,000 websites affected, we've had to deal with a lot of support.

My other post was merged and I didn't realize it. The servers are back online after being down for 3hrs and 29mins; no word about the outage on the Server Beach forums yet.
