Really Cheap Reseller Hosting?
Posted by esher2292, 06-17-2004, 03:35 PM |
First thing,
I've been told that I can't host websites off of my windows xp computer. I want to get a reseller account.
After I get one, what is the best way to get enough customers to pay for the service? Right now I have $22 that I can spend on a reseller account. I don't know what I'd do if I don't get enough customers before I get my next bill.....

What exactly are you looking to get out of this?
If it's just to earn a quick bit of cash then go out a look for a local job instead.
$22 will get you nowhere, sure it'll get you a small reseller account, but do you even have a domain? what about needed software? order/support system licences etc, a payment processor?
It would be totally, totally unfair to take on paying customers when you can't even guarantee your next payment to keep their sites running. please don't even think about it.
If you must insist on doing something web/hosting related look for a host with an affiliate program.

Don't even bother if you don't have the cash on-hand to cover at least two years of hosting. Then, like Loon said, you'll need a site, some method to gather people's info and activate plans, a way to accept payments and the knowhow to set it up, financial management software, industry knowledge and a business plan that covers all of these things and reasonable customer support structure.
If someone had to tell you not to host sites from your personal PC, you probably need to get a little more education under your belt before taking on this type of endeavor. That means asking a lot of relevant questions and doing a little research on your own. All it takes is one reasonably savvy customer to catch on to your lack of knowledge - few posts around various forums (including here), and your business is at best compromised, at worst finished.
So, get your learn on! And start saving your pennies. It ain't gonna happen overnight

Not sure if this is in you're budget but hostoodle is < $5.00/mo, I've been with them quite awhile with no problems.
