Is offering unlimited domains and unlimited park on domains a good idea?

Ok, just wanted to know what the deal is here - we currently cap our reseller accounts by the number of domains (cpanel accounts) that a client can have.
Does offering unlimited domains (limits are placed on the disk space and bandwidth) really mess up your server or have the potential to create problems?
Also, if you offer unlimited parked domains, how would that affect your server, if at all?

I believe on a cpanel server 3 files are opened for every domain on the server, while we haven't run into a limit of any kind, the thought comes to mind that the amount of domains on a server (Active or not) can overburden the server due to the amount of possible processing asscociated with managing the files.

So having unlimited park on domains is not a good idea then I take it? What would be a reasonable amount for a reseller to have? Perhaps just match the number of cpanel accounts that we allow currently? For example, base account allows for 50 domains so we could offer 50 parkon domains too...

Maybe this very current thread can help. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1
Cheers!

No, this is not related to the question. Its not about resources for each account, its the number of accounts in question and is a very big difference.

That's certainly a possibility at some point or another. However, I cannot say that I've ever had this happen or even ever seen anyone who met this point. Of course, I'm not saying that it's not possible, it's just I've never seen nor heard of it being done.
IMHO it's fine to offer unlimited domains - it's built on a similar idea of overselling with significantly better odds from the way I see it. While there are people who own loads of domains, the rarely put that many domains in one plan. It comes to the point where you may certainly have a lot of domains - but eventually that account you have is not going to leave enough room for all of those domains to remain with active websites.
My advice is it's fine to offer them. I'd just recommend inserting a line in your policy that gives you room to take care of any accounts that may excessively overuse the unlimited domains.

My response must have been clear enough, I was answering in respect to the server resources, not the reseller account resources. Just clarifying what I said Crazytech, with a dual pentium 3 the limit I've seen is about 500 domains, a few heavy sites and over 480 domains and you will start seeing processing related to the amount of domains, not related to backup runs etc.

I don't get what you're trying to clarify here. I simply said in the experience I've had, I've never come across a problem with having too many domains draining on resources - perhaps that's due to how the accounts are placed on the servers I've worked with. I agreed that there is a limit as you stated in your orginal post.
Perhaps you misunderstood my post. By resources I did mean the server because that would obviously have an effect on the accounts on it.
