DNS Setup

Posted by Seeyabye, 03-03-2010, 06:06 AM
Hi, Basically, I have 2 servers, both are running DNS Servers. Server 2 - VPS - Running on Directadmin Control Panel - Hosting all my DNS subdomains and linking them to server 3. Server 3 - DEDICATED SERVER - ISPConfig 3 Control Panel - Has a DNS Server, but no domains hosted here. My problem here is I need to link my domains from server 2 to server 3. Under directadmin, I've added serv3.myhosting.com (SERVER 3 NAME and website), ns5.myhosting.com, ns6.myhosting.com. However, it seems that all are pointed to SERVER 3, but my problem here is with the following records (See attachment). I was wondering if there is anything necessary for me to configure on SERVER 3 or there are just misconfigurations on SERVER 2? I'm just not very familiar with setting this up DNS as I really got confused with master, slaves... and always wonder who is giving out the instructions and stuffs. Attachment nameserver1.jpg & namserver2.jpg: The error I obtained using intodns.com to check serv3.myhosting.com Attachment nameserver2.jpg: I'm showing the list of domains that I've placed in DNS Management. serv3 should point to DEDICATED SEVER, and myhosting.com is a local domain (points to SERVER 2) itself. * myhosting.com is just a sample, it's not the real domain, I edited it using Firebug to show myhosting.com. Attachment nameserver3.jpg: This are the information of myhosting.com. I've added 2 nameservers, ns5 and ns6. ns5 points to .192 and ns6 points to .199 Attachment nameserver4.jpg: This are the configurations for serv3.myhosting.com. Thank you in advanced! I'm desperate to get things done as I've wasted a lot of time reading and searching, but I could not find my answer! Regards, Zepx Attached Thumbnails

not hiding things would make diagnostics a *lot* easier.

Sorry, seems like I can't edit the 1st post, anyway here is my server information, (space added to prevent bots) Edit: I reedited to domain to non-hiding.

ok GoDaddy only have these two listed as authoritative name servers so you would need to add the others though GoDaddy portal. Also you need to add the other name servers into your zone file as NS Records. As when I dig ns1 these are the only two in your zone file. ; AUTHORITY SECTION: nanohosting.info. 3600 IN NS ns2.nanohosting.info. nanohosting.info. 3600 IN NS ns1.nanohosting.info. Ok the difference between a master and slave name server. The master name server is where you make changes or modifications to your domain zone file. i.e if you need to change a host name or ip address for a server. The slave updates it zone file by transferring it from the master. This way you only have to make the changes to the master. The listed NS no matter if they are master or slave are the authoritative servers. The ones which give the hostname -> IP to everyone on the internet. I don't use directadmin, I normal set them up manually or use idns which is a little different. Anyway I hope this explains a little. Last edited by hazon; 03-04-2010 at 07:41 AM.

Hello, A bit confused by reading your first post. As per the attachments, this can be fixed. But the explanation is confusing. You need an admin here to fix this in a min than doing this DNS stuff by yourselves.

Hi thanks for the help! esupports I will contact you again when I need help. I'm currently waiting for ns5.nanohosting.info and ns6.nanohosting.info to be registered with my registrar. I've done that yesterday. I've also added NS records for ns5. and ns6. for nanohosting.info. using network-tools.com, you can see that ns1,2,5,6 are shown, but ns5 and ns6 are still not registered with my registrar. I guess I'll wait for another 24 hours.
