google apps backup

I guess this question is more related to "technology" than it is to "security." That said, the contingency I'm contemplating could be cause by a security breach. Anyway, I want my setup to fail gracefully, and, since I'm now in the process of setting it up, I thought I might ask after how I might best do that.
I have a domain name registered with Dreamhost, and my web host for that domain is Squarespace. I also have a Google Apps premier account for the domain.
Having read this thread over at google, it's clear to me that I'll need redundancy when it comes to my client's ability to communicate with me via mycompany@mycompany.com if google apps fails. (I forgot about the 5 posts b4 u can link. So, for the forum post I mentioned, google Is Google Apps Premier Edition support effective?)
One thing that comes to mind would be to have my regular gmail account fetch my mail from the google apps account. I know that you can't have gmail fetch mail from another gmail account, but I'm told that google apps resides in a realm completely separate from gmail, and so I assume that I could do that.
But google as a whole might go down, or lock me out of my accounts.
Are there any other free email providers that fetch mail? It doesn't look like yahoo or hotmail do. And google apps do not appear on the list on Backupify's site. They back up my Gmail and docs and so forth, but, even if they did backup google apps, it's not clear to me how I would go about working through Backupify for ongoing communication via my google apps account in the event that the app account was down.
I could continue with this sort of speculation, but you get the picture: if google apps goes down, I need to be able to sign in to another email account which has been replicating the mail in my apps account from the get-go.
One more question: where does one go to add email addresses for an account in google apps? I don't want to add another user; I will be the only person accessing the apps account.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Check http://www.gmx.com to fetch your emails from any POP3 account.
I have been using their gmx.net (German I think) account, even before gmail came out, and recently (the day they started) also got the gmx.com account.
Never had a single downtime or outage on both the versions.

This article may help alleviate some of your concern: http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/04/goo...disaster-proof
It doesn't help if you were to get completely locked out of your account, but that probably wouldn't happen in the first place. With that said, it's never a bad idea to have a contingency plan!

Gmail (& g apps) has an option to forward all email. USe that to forward all email to another free email provider account and your all set. But really you should not worry so much about google going down. Its a very rare thing to happen.
You could also setup one domain at g apps and another with ms live.com email hosting. Communicate both domains to your client via your contact page so that they have multiple contact options.
