Best control panel for Windows or Windows/Linux?
Posted by surfinmtns, 07-30-2004, 10:26 PM |
I'm deciding on a reseller host but I'm a little worried about H-Sphere. It's seems very powerful but I've had issues with it at some hosts. Most of the hosts I'm looking at use H-sphere but I'd like to know if there are alternatives that would be better. I read that Plesk is working on a Windows version! What is the best admin interface for Windows and/or Windows/Linux reseller hosting?

I would suggest using Helm as it is the most fully featured and compact control panel that I have come across to date.
It has built in everything apart from a support ticket system, but there is an area where you can specify your own links so things like that can be added there. Helm also includes a billing system which is automated.
It is easy and great to use once you get used to it. It is also fully brandable.

One can only presume you have yet to use H-Sphere.

True - not usable yet though - we've done some testing on 4 servers, and it just isn't on the money yet. Hopefully it will be, soon.

I haven't had the pleasure of using Plesk or Helm yet but the interfaces I've seen look good. I'll have to go demo them again. Did I miss any alternatives? I read the presales forum at diyhosting.com and learned about the Windows Plesk version. I'll be looking forward to seeing it at diyhosting.com. Helm is winning my poll so far. I have to admit that H-Sphere's support for both Linux and Windows is awesome.

I have used H-Sphere with a few different companies.
I find Helm to be easier to control and more user friendly. It has all the functions that you would need.
I was merely giving my personal preference/recommendation. As the old saying goes; if we were all the same, the world would be a boring place.
I do rate Helm better than H-Sphere, although, H-Sphere is still a very good contender.

My post was in response to "ukdzine".
Helm is just way too buggy, and way too under-supported to put in to true production. The bug list is scary, as is the number of times they have fixed a bug, then released a fix for the fix.
I do beleive helm will come into it's own around February/March of next year though, providing they get a few things set, first.
I think it will contend with Plesk for the best single-platform winXX CP.

Greetings:
If you want to grow the hosting side of your business, then H-Sphere's complete automation will help keep your prices down.
H-Sphere does have a high up front learning curve, but once you get things set up correctly, it takes care of itself.
Thank you.
