Resellers, resellers everywhere. Which to choose!??!
Posted by Mitcheal, 07-31-2004, 11:02 PM |
Alrighty my friend told me about reseller hosting and I'm eager to start one with him....but I am paying 100% of the bill and am getting 90% of the profits- so I need to know who to choose.
AceHost.net seems promising because of the balance of value and affordability.
SolutionRoad seems good in pricing and has many server addons
SiteSnatcher claims to have perfect uptime.
What I'm looking for is affordable reseller hosting, but within the 5GB+ range. If anyone else has any recommendations then ago ahead and shoot. Also, what would you recomend for a new reseller to do and have? I somewhat know what I'm doing in the way of the business but is there something I need to do or need to know?
Thanks a whole lot

Oh yeah and I dont need to know any of the "This is a cut-throat business" and "webhosting is a fulltime job" and "many new companies see that they cant do it 6months down the line and washout" I know all that all I want is recomendations on business plan, software, etc

When picking a hosting company you need to look at more then costs. Check the featues they have and what you need. Do a search on WHT about them and send them presales questions to test response times and knowledge. A little extra time spent checking out companies can save you a lot of time, money and energy in the long run. Good luck in your search.

Well, any company claiming "perfect uptime" is doing one of two things:
1: Lying
2: Not taking care of their servers.
'Downtime' is required, and whilst it can be kept to a minimum, claiming "perfect uptime" is just silly, as it shows blatant inexperience in the web hosting industry.

What is perfect uptime anyway? Perfect for you may be 100%. But as ISHL commented there will have to be some downtime so perhaps the providers idea of perfect is 99.5% (1.85 days of downtime per year) given their normal maintenance schedules. I think perfect is a subjective term it's not the same thing as 100%.
I would ask for clarification on their "perfect" uptime.

You probably want to check what they mean by perfect uptime. It is practically impossible to have 100% uptime, as you need to account for software updates, and any other unplanned outages.

Generally uptime "SLA"'s have clauses for scheduled maintanence etc, If they do not then the host that is offering should most likely not be hosting.

Yes, this is correct, but if there is alway inevitable downtime. Whether it a hardware failure, network problem, or other unforseen problem.
edit: To Mods - I checked signature and it fits fine on 1024 on default IE settings. I submitted a ticket regarding this.

May I ask why my signature was removed??? Take a look at the ticket I submitted! I got a reply from SoftwareRevenue through the Support Desk:
Please put back my signature, I have done nothing wrong.
I do not want to give my ticket number here, but please check your support desk. This matter has already been looked into.
Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks everyone - I know that the "perfect" uptime thingy is fishy, but thats after maintenance and what have you (so he says). But does anyone know anything about AceNet Host and Solution Road? They seem somewhat promising.

I saw 99.9% up time, no "perfect uptime". Which by the way is possible multiple servers, in multiple nocs, with the proper people in place. Not a viable solution for a company to shared accounts considering that large ammount of money needed to pull of such a solution...

Yes, 99.9% uptime is very feasable.

See how long those companies are in the business.

With proper hardware and software redundancy and load balancing, "downtime" can be kept to a few seconds per year, but you're going to pay for it.
