DNS is not Valid !
Posted by webhostbeginner, 07-17-2010, 07:26 AM |
Hello,
we configured a new server some days ago (about 10 days), we defined 2 DNSs on this server.
the server is Linux and I installed webmin on it , everything seems to be ok but when I trying to add our DNSs to our new domains I get an error : the dns is not valid ! but I can ping our DNSs .I checked our dns in internic too and on this site I got this error :
No match for nameserver
I asked my data center and they apply Reverse DNS on our IPs for our DNSs.
would you please help me ?
what's the problem ?

If you receive the error message that the DNS are not valid, only your domain registrar can help you in a better way to find out what the problem is.
BTW, what are the name servers and to which domain you are trying to assign them when you receive the error message?
Are you sure the name servers are registered in the domain registrar panel and an A record is also created on the server they are pointing to?

You should try a "name server" whois at the following URL for each of your name server host names.
http://www.internic.net/whois.html
If there is no match, then it likely confirms that your name servers were never properly registered via your domain registrar, and you would need to contact the registrar for further assistance. If you have access to a control panel at the registrar, it may be possible for you to directly register the name servers without contacting them.

1) reverse zone does not affect the "direct". So there can be no problems.
2) For the solutions you need:
2.1) Conclusion whois about your zone.
2.2) Configuration named. If you use it.
