Hi I have a dedicated server with godaddy and having root access. But when I try through SSH, I am unable to get into /var/named folder. it says 'Permission Denied'. Please tell me what is the issue and how I can access that. basically, I am trying to access the zone files. Thanks.

Are you sure you have root access to your server? What is the username you use to SSH in to your server? Execute the following command and paste the output here If the output isn't root, then you are not the root user and cannot access directories outside of your home directory.

Odd indeed. If this is your server, you have the right to direct access to root. Regards Joe / UNIXY

What exactly did you enter to switch to root ? And do you get any results to "ls -l /var/named" ? What about results for "cd /var/named"

Hi, As I updated earlier, I am able to access the /var/named folder. It seems my host creates the 'root' user automatically using the same password created for the host signup. I used "su root" after logging into the server through SSH.
