1 month review of Varhosting
Posted by countrytyme, 02-22-2005, 10:06 PM |
Well, it's been one month now since my move from Surpass to Varhosting, and all seems to be going quite well. The main reason I made the switch was due to downtime. As I had posted previously, I didn't have the 85% uptime that other did, it was closer to 90%. We also had smtp problems, email blacklisting on the server and then excessive spam filters set in place by Surpass that led to emails never to be seen. Not only is my website my livelyhood, but 95% of my clients rely on their sites to generate legitimate income.
What I have found at Varhosting is:
friendly & courteous staffcustomer support is quick (either through ticket or chat)good pricing structurehave gone beyond the call of duty by transferring not only my site and clients sites, but transferring new clients too.
My recommendation to Varhosting is a server status page. They are monitored by Siteuptime, but they are not the most accurate and the length of time between checks is unknown, at least it is to the consumer.
All in all, I would recommend Varhosting. They are competetive in pricing, support is great and should one wish to, they have the ability to support your clients also.

I'll post another in 3-6 months, and hopefully just as good.

I thought that might have justified paying a little more rather than opting for Surpass
Oh well, glad you are happy with VARhosting

We're working on getting the Varhosting.com domain and considering alternatives to SiteUptime (such as HyperSpin perhaps).
Thanks Liane for your suggestions!

Hyperspin would be a nice choice as I use it myself without a problem. Nice to see that you are getting the .com branded of your name to cause less confusion.

What about host-tracker.com?

I'm liking host-tracker after reviewing both - will poke around some more to see what I find. Thanks for the suggestion demerzel!

countrytyme, have you had any problems stemming from the fact that Varhosting runs php as cgi?
|
Posted by countrytyme, 02-23-2005, 10:15 PM |
Touch wood (yes, I'm sorta supersticious), absolutely no problems.

countrytyme,
Nice review and thanks for coming to WHT to share your experience.
Also, great job Roj, keep it up.

Let me clarify, only php5 is running cgi.

It was by chance that I found them and back then they only had 4 nodes, but now they have more than doubled it to 10, although 7 of them are in the US, 3 from Europe, so yeah there limitations, but so far host-tracker is pretty good and FREE! Only having google adsense is another plus.

Hello all,
It's quite obvious that varhosting would serve better than most of the other hosting companies, as they have good knowledge on support issues. Not many hosting companies have their in-house support staff and moreover, they have hands on experience in dealing with many hosting companies.
My very best wishes for them!
Regards,
Gabbar

Gabbar, I don't think Varhosting have their in-house support staff. There's nothing wrong about it, and I actually think it's more cost-effective to hire freelance support staff. Hope you don't mind.

Support staff is their own, not outsourced.

Oh boy - I don't want to run the risk of warning points again (like I did before when somebody wanted this cleared up) but essentially Freak and countrytyme are absolutely right.
Camp2Win is wrong. (Sorry about being so direct - I just wanted it to be clear.)
