Need USA/European IP ranges
Posted by RRyan, 11-24-2010, 12:10 AM |
I'm about to open a gaming server and I wish to allow players accessing only from European countries, USA, Brazil and Balkan countries.
Basically, africa, india, asia and so on, all blocked.
I've been syn/ddos attacked few months ago pretty hard and 80% of attack traffic originated from those I mentioned.
Where can I get IP ranges for that?

The easiest way is to reference http://www.iana.org/assignments/ipv4...ress-space.xml and find all of the /8 space allocated to APNIC (Asia/Australia) and AfriNIC (Africa). If you need to get more granular than that there are lists available but it becomes much more complicated to sort out.

Hello Jeff,
Let me see if I got this straight.
Example:
105/8 AfriNIC 2010-11 whois.afrinic.net ALLOCATED
This means that if I block 105.0.0.0 - 105.255.255.255 I'll block all of the range.
I just find the remainders of afrinic and I'll have entire africa blocked?
Thank you for your reply!

Yes, that is correct.

Actually, there are likely many users in Africa using ARIN IP space since AfriNIC has not always existed. Satellite users will likely have RIPE (European) space.

It seems good enough.
My visitors are players which need a low ping to connect, meaning direct connection only. Even if I skip a person or two it's still ok as long as majority is blocked.
Once again, thanks alot!
