excessive memory useage xen vps

I have a xen vps with cpanel. One site on it with no traffic. I have 4gb of memory and it shows 3gb in use at idle. I can't understand where all this memory is going because ps aux shows nothing really or top? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That memory is just used for cache. It's the way Linux works, nothing out of the ordinary.

ok i disabled the memory thing in cpanel and memory went up. I have found where the memory is going. When loading a desktop for vnc it eats up all the memory. when I am done i turn of vnc-server and tried init 3 to stop the x windows but that doesn't work I can't get the xwindows to stop.

Did you read what samb0057 said? http://www.linuxatemyram.com/ You have to read the 2nd line with +/- buffers. Your server is only using ~437 MB of ram.
