ResellerZoom Review

Posted by tenfourstudios, 06-24-2005, 02:40 PM
My current host is now ResellerZoom. I am VERY satisfied with them so far. It is hard to impress me when it comes to hosting. Some people feel a 24 hour response time is good, while I find it horrible. The two areas that ResellerZoom shines in are the most important traits of a host-speed and support. First off, ResellerZooms speed and uptime is excellent. I have not noticed any downtime at all and the speed is always great. The server never has any lag even though I have a CronJob running every minute. I am on a Dual Xeon which is the standard server configuration I think. Can’t say enough about the speed and uptime of their servers. Never had an issue with it in the 2 months I’ve been with them. There is only one way to see if a company has good support or not, and that is by trial and error. Well I can tell you that it was no error with ResellerZoom. I have consistently had my issue responded to within 30 minutes and got a solution witin 12 hours. They dealt with me and my problems in a friendly and professional manner. I have no complaints at all with their support. They have also kept me informed of any and all upgrades to the server which may cause downtime. If you couldn’t notice I am very happy with ResellerZoom and their servers. I plan on staying with them for a long time!

Don't worry, it is quite apparent. Thank you for taking the time to write the review.

I just looked at their PHP info page (I'm not allowed to post links yet but it's in the Presales questions in the Knowledge Base) and it says PHP4 is installed as CGI. Is that just for HostingZOOM or ResellerZOOM too? Can you check your PHP info? Thanks for the review!

Wow it looks like their Sales team is working late. They just let me know that they run PHP4 as CGI with no plans to offer PHP5 though you can run that yourself on your account (I assume as CGI as well).

I have been hosted by them before. Their replies to your questions are quick. I never had any downtime.

care to share why you left them?

Many start their hosting business with reseller. Then with growth they buy their own server in a data center. I'll do so, too. It's less risky (money) to start, but you must have a good reseller to start and have support, what Resellerzoom/Hostingzoom certainly are.

I've been with RZ for more than one month now. It is my first attempt going for a reseller account. I was lucky to find them. I signed up for the mini reseller plan (4.95 USD / month) and also bought private nameservers. I didn't need to contact their support dept. except for details setting up my nameservers (this is the first time I use them, as I said). Everything else is self explanatory at the WHM that comes with the reseller account. Some downtime was experienced of whihc I didn't keep records (I monitor my account with InternetSupervision.com), but it doesn't happen often. I'm happy with those people so far. I hope I'll always be Keep up the good work RZ.

Haythem, If you can spend some more money go with HZ. The servers are better and the uptime guarantee is higher. I remember reading that on their website. In addition they offer more services with HZ packages. Of course, you get what you pay for after all. Speaking for myself, I think I'm getting more than I expected for the 4.95/month package from RZ -until now! I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway Good luck.

The downtime you experienced was on the Janus server most likely. Janus and a few other servers were taken down and maintenance was done to them.. Total downtime in minutes.. 36.7 Well worth it though, but makes me look bad because now I'm below 99.7 uptime.. lol

Dear ScreamingEaglePC, I'm not on the Janus server. I'm on Saturn. Anyway, I didn't receive any new email notification from the monitoring service stating that the server is down. The last notification I got was 100% uptime Best regards

Well, Delta server went down. Was a HDD crash on their raid mirror array. It's going to be 24 hours on downtime - as they are performing a fdsk... I'm a little ticked off atm. They did give mea free month, but still...

Well, after waiting 20HRS!!! for FSCK'ing check to complete, they decided it was taking too long and are now swapping both drives and raid card & reinstall everything (ETA is now 8HRS). So far total downtime is 26 hours and this downtime is not over. You would think that after 12HRS down they would work on setting up a spare server (fully restored and ready to go) in case plan A doesn't work. Well, plan A didn't work and now get to wait all over again. Then again, thats hindsight talking.

I used to be hosted by ResellerZOOM at one point for my personal sites. I purchased their promotional plan which was offered on WHT awhile ago at a dollar for the first month and continued for 5 months afterwards at 4.95~. I used it primarly for small PHP development projects and a space for my documents/files. As I signed up under them in their earlier stages, I experienced a single server downtime a week after I signed up. I'm not exactly sure how long the downtime was, but I didn't notice it at all if they hadn't of sent an email notification of the harddrive failure. Transfer to the new server was seamless and without errors of any kind. Their customer support seems to always be available and staff appears to be exceptional in terms of training and niceness. To sum it all up: Professional, affordable, and fast.

Update to my comments above. Total downtime was around 36 hours. Unfortunately for everyone (HZ & users), because of file corruptions on 2nd drive, they were unable to take advantage of their RAID1 setup. So they ultimately re-installed EVERYTHING from scratch using thei daily client backups they provide. During this whole issue, the HZ support crew was updating everyone minute-by-minute on what was happening and taking the time to answer questions on their forum. They said they have learned from this and have made steps so the downtime would never last as long as it did. They said they will restore a 2nd server while fixing original server so if original fails to take, they will already have 2nd server ready to roll (like I originally commented). They also gave everyone 1-month credit. Yes, this whole issue took longer than it should have, but they certainly have my respect because of how everything else was handled. After 4 months (or 6/mo), I will post a full review (new thread).

Frankly that is the key for good and active support. Servers may go down due to number of reasons, but how the situation is handled is of utmost importance. Nice review rootbug! Do keep us posted!
